Said to me on the phone by the bloke coming to collect an item he’s buying from me through EBay.
He’s coming round this morning.
I don’t want to put the bloody kettle on! Is this normal?
I wouldn’t dream of asking this of someone I’ve not met.

I don't think that's the case but I could be wrong.

Another saying it's just an expression, nothing untoward about it.

The reaching some posters do on here is hilarious.

I’m from Yorkshire, only ever use it with my friend with benefits (is that still the right term?)
I say it as I’m a few minutes away and I think he’s made me a cuppa once in the entire time I’ve been seeing him...just an expression

I think it's hilarious that people are trying to convince us that it's perfectly normal and Northern to text at night 'get the kettle on' when you won't see the person (a stranger) the next day.
