Very brief background.. I've been going to the doctors with right loin pain for about 6/7 years now. Had multiple blood tests etc (often told there was raised kidney levels). Ended up in A&E at least 4 times with extreme pain and not being able to pass urine properly. When I was in hospital having my baby in December of last year, the doctors monitored my fluid input and output for the whole 4 days due to concerning blood tests again. GP once told me my kidney levels are what he would expect in a 70 year old. I am 25.
Finally got referred to a urologist who did some tests and found there isn't anything surgical that can be done so has referred me to a nephrologist (kidney medical doc rather than surgeon). This is where I get upset. In a letter he sent to my GP outlining my tests etc, he stated 'The patient appears to have Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease which has been going on a long time' then a load of numbers and letters I do not understand.
This was news to me! I had no idea what CKD really was and definitely not that I appear to have it. AIBU to think the doctors have dropped the ball here a little? After multiple blood tests, urine tests and complaints of symptoms including horrible swelling in my lower legs and hands and chronic fatigue, they never seemed to put 2 and 2 together? Maybe if they had diagnosed this sooner it wouldn't have progressed past the first two stages?
I have depression and almost every time I've gone about anything (including this and most impressively pain in knee due to a long term condition) they blame it on the depression and never took me seriously.
I'm only in my 20's, got a baby, and found out I have a serious illness via letter.
I'm possibly overwhelmed and therefore overreacting.. going to see GP this morning to get some answers.
