I know it’s early! But this time of year always seems to fly by..
Me and my partner are currently in the process of saving, and looking for a house to buy. We’ve been really tight this year, spending out on only thing we really need to.
AIBU to say to my family that they’ll only be receiving something small from me and my partner, I have a few people to buy for, parents, step parents, siblings, grandparents..
I’m happy to buy them a card, flowers, chocolates etc. But I don’t want to go mad as Christmas time will probably be the time we will be very near either moving into a house, hopefully!

Of course it's ok to tell your family this.

In my family, (dad & partner, two brothers and sister-in-laws and niece and her husband), we do a 'secret Santa'. We put the names of each couple in a hat and each couple picks one out and just buys for that couple up to a maximum of £30.

Would that work for you?

If you were my dd, sister, etc I would tell you to leave it completely this year. A homemade xmas card would be perfect. I would buy you a housey item that you needed. Everyone has periods of time in their life when they can not afford to go mad and that’s absolutely fine.

We never buy much for adult family members anyway. Wine, chocolate etc - just a token gift. YANBU.
