I'm at an in between stage with upcoming work, and right now need to earn some money fast.

No experience as a bar tender or waitress, so no chance of those. Have quite a few years of general office type work, but no special skills in advanced Excel or project management software etc.

Is temping my best bet? What agencies should I look at?

What else can I do?

@TempyMcTempyface - I don't know, Its not like contacting employment agencies or checking their websites for stuff the fits in with your skill set or salary expectations is the glaringly obvious thing to do 🙄

When I temped (office work) in London I just took copies of CV round several agencies in person and registered with them and then they phoned me when they had work. Not sure if that's how it still works, as it was a long time ago, maybe you can do it all online now?

I was told to use several agencies as some of them were useless and apart from word of mouth, there was no way of knowing which ones. But as I said so long ago it was pre-internet, I guess now you can just load Google maps and type temp agencies or something in the search bar and read the reviews, then contact the ones with the best reviews?

You could also ask on Reddit London for recommendations or search on there using various words eg:

Temping, care work, cleaning. I earnt £14/hr as a carer in London.

SandwichPickle · 13/08/2018 17:39

The biggest paying office long term temp jobs are LA or HE and they will have specified contractors.

I'm after personal recommendations for agencies people have used, and found decent, or else ideas for other possible things I might try.

Caring is a good one - I have experience in my family with elderly relatives with complex health needs. Have no manual handling cert or anything though.

I earnt £8 per hour in 1997 doing medical secretary work for the NHS via an agency. I had to be able to type at least 70 wpm.

Not familiar with Reddit but will look at it, thank you!

Doesn't need to be long term it's more just to fill a gap really.

Any recommendations for specific temp agencies?

Seriously lost. I'm sending a bunch through online applications with a sinking feeling I'll hear nothing back from them. When I try to call, they just ask me if I've filled in the forms. The internet has made a lot of this stuff easier but also more anonymous in a way.

I just want some work, admin or care or whatnot, whatever I'm able to get - to tide me over.
