I work in school so I'm off with the children. Ds wants to stay in all day (which will involve playing on the Xbox all day) dd is bored staying in and wants to go out, money is a bit tight we're away next week so trying to not spend too much this week. I feel like I'm wasting days sitting in doing nothing. Ds is 8 and dd is 11 she's not interested in just going to the park etc, everything seems to cost more than I expect. How do you fill your days?

Yeah school holidays here are about to come to an end and to be honest trying to take the kids out was impossible..every suggestion I had was shot down in seconds.

Look online for days out that’s free or discounted to plan ahead and make pack lunches up so you aren’t spending a fortune on food.
Take them swimming once a week that’s one day out the way, pick sunday afternoon as it’s usly quieter

We do a mixture of things. Sometimes we meet up with friends, as both of my kids (10 and 7, so similar ages to yours), love to hang out with their friends and if it's just me and them I find that they don't ever want to do anything!

We have a few days out doing specific things - a theme park or water activity, say, always with friends. We go and stay with my DM for a few days, we have a week's holiday, they do a few days at clubs, DS1 did rugby in the boiling sun, DS2 did a swimming course. DS1 is at a tutorial club today (he's sitting his 11+ soon), so DS2 and I will go for a bike ride after lunch ...

It's hard to keep them entertained and mine get eight weeks, not six. At this point (five weeks in), I find I'm craving some time to myself. I'm so fed up of policing the screen time and trying to think of things to do. Three more weeks to go ...

I don’t keep them entertained every day because it would cost an absolute fortune. I aim to have three activities a week that cost then maybe the park on the odd day or films/let them play games at home/baking etc.

Activities wise is usually museums, art galleries, swimming, they’re doing a pottery class in a couple of weeks, seeing friends, walks in the countryside, softplay, cinema occasionally etc. It’s really difficult and expensive but it also feels like it’s going really fast this year.
