to think abscess should be getting better not worse by now

I've had a nasty abscess on my left breast for two weeks now and despite being on the second lot of antibiotics and GIVE trips to the doctor it is more painful and swollen than ever.

There was a brief period last week where it was looking and feeling better after 7 days of flucloxacillin but when i saw my GP last Monday after completing the course he told me I didn't need any more and gave me magnesium sulfate to put on it to draw out the gunk. I did as directed and it was appearing to dry up but I woke up on Friday morning with it throbbing and red again.

Another trip to GP who gave me more flucloxacillin which I've taken religiously and I've tried to continue with the mag sulfate but it's just too bloody sore. I was really hoping it would be improving by now but it just varies from low level throbbing and stinging to excruciating pain, depending on how much I move and I don't know what to do.

I'm not normally a wuss about things but this is getting me down now.

Good lord that is one big abscess! Hope it feels easier?
Are you still under follow up at the breast clinic?

yellowspottedwellies · 15/08/2018 08:00

Good grief that looks uncomfortable - how are you now?

Bluelady · 15/08/2018 08:16

Ouch, that looks so painful. Hope it soon subsides.

Birdinthetree · 15/08/2018 08:27

That looks very painful. Try not to let anything rub on it, hope it heals soon.

pinkandsparkly · 15/08/2018 09:36

It feels so much better since it was cut and drained yesterday. The relief from the pressure is wonderful. No idea what it looks like coz it's covers in dressings but I'm sure it's not as angry looking as it was.

Chestynut, yes I have a follow-up appointment tomorrow, they will change the packing and have a look at it.

Holy fuck that looks so painful Shock

I’m so glad you’re more comfortable now

Elliss2018 · 15/08/2018 09:46

You poor thing! That looks like agony! I have one on my breast, got a doctors appointment in an hour 😫

Elliss2018 · 15/08/2018 14:12

No where near as bad as yours get. Dr thinks it's been caused from a bite, I've just come back from holiday. Got antibiotics.

Tomatoesrock · 15/08/2018 16:23

Oh bloody hell that looks absolute agony, poor you. Was it sorted out for you, I hope it was and your feeling better.

Tomatoesrock · 15/08/2018 16:25

Let us know how your follow up goes, hopefully you will be sorted.

CoraPirbright · 15/08/2018 16:27

WTF was the stupid sonographer thinking???? Squeezing something like that??? No wonder you were in tears - poor poor you. I am so sorry and I hope that it is feeling a little better since your subsequent treatment. Flowers

visitorthedog · 15/08/2018 16:34

That sounds like it’s way out of the sonographer’s remit?

DontCallMeCharlotte · 15/08/2018 16:46

Ooooh OP, you poor love!

But I understand the sheer relief you'll be feeling now as I've had a couple that had to be dealt with by surgery.

Incidentally, it might be worth ruling out diabetes as they can be a symptom.

Ollivander84 · 15/08/2018 17:10

I can imagine the relief! My armpit one was done under GA and I've had plastic surgery on it since to fix the wound. Twice Hmm
I do have hidradenitis supprativa though!

pinkandsparkly · 17/08/2018 14:45

Hi Everyone, I had my follow up yesterday and it looks so much better already. No redness, just two holes! Having the packing changed was rather painful as they had to dig about a bit but nothing like as bad as what the sonographer did! Today it feels better again and I slept properly for the first time in nearly 3 weeks last night. I don't think I'm diabetic as I don't have any symptoms at all but I've got a blood test next week to check anyway.
Thank you all for taking the time to reply on here, it means a lot to this long time member as I don't often post, just lurk. X

So pleased it's healing well and getting some decent sleep makes all the difference. Long may it continue!

PatheticNurse · 17/08/2018 15:58

I really don't think the sonographer is even allowed to do that. I think you should check with your consultant about that aspect!

CaptainHarville · 17/08/2018 16:12

My god that looks horrendous, loads worse than the one I had and that was painful, you must have been in agony. Glad it's getting better.

Tomatoesrock · 17/08/2018 17:27

I am really glad you are on the mend, I was truly shocked to see how painful it looked, I cant imagine how you coped having the pain. Hopefully it is gone for good. Rest relax and catch up on the zzzzz's.
