Offensive graffiti not removed

Today, at about 3.30pm a friend visited a local store.
She then sent a snap of graffiti on the side of the building. She was upset, I guess it could have been far worse and read something far more offensive. Nevertheless it shook her.
The statement simply read ‘ban Islam...’ I believe it was followed by a swear or something but the writing isn’t the best so I couldn’t work it out.
AIBU to think the staff should have removed this/covered it up when they opened? Surely, it would have been done during nightime?

It's possible they have reported it to the police who told them not to remove until somekne could come out.

SilverHairedCat · 12/08/2018 18:46

I can't imagine the staff had the right chemicals to get it off. Perhaps they were waiting for the police to turn up?

Glumglowworm · 12/08/2018 18:52

Unfortunately I don’t expect the staff would have access to the right equipment to remove or paint over it immediately.

It’s horrible, but the shop and it’s staff aren’t to blame. The racist dick who painted it is solely to blame.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 12/08/2018 18:57

How would they of got it off?

SomewhereInTheNorth · 12/08/2018 19:17

I appreciate that they probably wouldn’t have the chemicals to remove it, it was more of a shock that a busy supermarket has that at the side. A friend with newborn (who is Muslim) was really taken aback.

It’s horrible but the supermarket are the victims of vandalism. I don’t think it’s reasonable to hold them responsible for the actions, and words, of others.

Health and safety. Can't imagine staff would be allowed (unless a big store with dedicated facilities staff with appropriate insurance)

MidniteScribbler · 13/08/2018 02:54

Staff are paid to work in the store, not paint walls. It's likely that the store has already arranged someone to come out, or they may not actually own the building and have to deal with a landlord to get it removed.

I think your friend is being pretty precious actually. Graffiti is shit, but no one stood in front of her and threw things at her, she could just walk by and realise that some people are dickheads.

MyDirtyLittleSecret · 13/08/2018 03:31

MidniteScribbler while I agree it may be difficult for the employees of the supermarket to remove the graffiti and also that it's probably in hand, the rest of your post shows the kind of oblivious insensitivity that encourages the scum who writes this kind of thing to emerge from under whatever rock they generally lurk under.

Precious? It's only words? Yeah, easy to say when you're not the one the words are aimed at. The Nazis started out with words and graffiti and then official slogans. Words full of hate that go unchallenged and publicly displayed embolden those who would use more than words to take worse actions.
