Severe Iigament pain in pregnancy

More a WWYD.

I have severe pain on one side of my pelvis, in a bikini line shape like a pair of pants. I have it on the other side too but only if I cough, move too quickly or turn. The left constantly hurts for hours.

I went to hospital about this last week and they checked me over and said I’m fine and it’s just ligament pain.

I can barely stand up Sad it does go but it lasts hours. I don’t really want to go to hospital again so I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to deal with this. Thank you everyone.

Dd is having this at the moment. Visiting an osteopath every few weeks is doing the trick.

Have you tried paracetamol? How many weeks are you? Maybe you could try pregnancy yoga to help some gentle stretching?

Rhynswynd · 12/08/2018 07:42

You can try a support belt and physio, it can help relieve some discomfort. I could barely move with my last baby. My doc was a twat and did not care.

Paracetamol takes the edge off it but it’s still bad. I can’t even move when sitting down.

I’m 18 weeks with non ID twins. I should’ve mentioned it’s twins, as I know that can make things like this more painful.

Be very careful about who you see about this. I recommend you see a women's health physiotherapist, and no one else. I had something similar and it was made much worse when I saw a chiropractor. I never got to the bottom of what was wrong due to a great lack of knowledge buy lots of different healthcare professionals ranging from my GP to a consultant at my local hospital. It was very frustrating. I came to the conclusion that I ripped/ruptured my periformis muscle as the sciatica I ended up with was very painful. I still get pain 14 years later, so proceed with caution.

Would my GP be able to refer me to anyone? Like you said I don’t want to make it worse.

Where can I get a support belt?

@BlairWaldorfsHeadband I'd speak to your midwife about getting referred to a women's health physiotherapist. They do operate private clinics too if that's something you are able to do.

@BlairWaldorfsHeadband sorry pressed post too soon. The Serola Belt is what I was recommend which I wore strapped around my pelvis, which kept everything tight and in place. It did help.

BlairWaldorfsHeadband · 12/08/2018 08:16

Thank you. I will ask this week about a referral.

The Pelvic Partnership have some really useful hints and tips. They can, also, point you in the direction of a professional in your area who specialises in treating PGP. I’ve never had any success with an NHS physio tbh, and that’s very common.

You might need crutches but don’t buy them without seeing a professional.

The best thing for PGP is rest. No hoovering, pushing supermarket trollies, sit down to put your knickers and trousers on. Keep your knees together as much as possible. See your GP for pain relief. I find ice works well.
