Have been given a last minute opportunity to grab a few days alone.
Wish list:
Short haul or quick to get to.
Luxury/ 5 star hotel.
Quiet -ish.
Big swimming pool.

Where should I go? Need to make a quick decision and too much choice!

I got very excited about that - but I've looked at the photos and it doesn't look like an Olympic sized pool to me! I'd guess that was about 25m possibly even 20m from some of the flatter angles.

It doesn't say how long it is on the website - I would have thought if it was an Olympic sized pool they would make a big deal out of it as that is very unusual for a hotel.

Oh sorry :( it was described as Olympic sized on a review

bridgetreilly · 11/08/2018 18:45

Sardinia: Valle dell'Erica Thalasso hotel.

Twinkie1 · 11/08/2018 18:53

here Olympic sized pool in beautiful surroundings.

HemanOrSheRa · 11/08/2018 18:54

Any of the IKOS hotels in Greece.

The Scarlet and the surrounding area is AMAZING! It has indoor and outdoor pools but they are small so not really for fitness swimming.

GlacierMints · 12/08/2018 10:04

Thanks for further suggestions. BTW an Olympic sized pool is 50m long. That is a long pool. There are relatively few 50m sized pools anywhere - a standard pool (like a local authority swimming baths) is usually 25 m.

The hotel Barriere looks about 25m to me - nice though.

Maybe you need one of those pools that’s river shaped and goes around the complex...

GlacierMints · 12/08/2018 10:29

"A complex" is exactly the sort of hotel I'd want to avoid!

Anyway pools like that tend to be lazy rivers (moving current) and aren't suitable for lap swimming because they are full of kids in innner tubes.

If you are lap swimming you just want to get your head down and get into a rhythm. It's harder to do if you have a curving pool

Nice but that is really a training centre I think because it says:

Please be reminded that the Olympic Swimming Pool is only open to Swimming Teams and Associations.

Re swimming pools - Titanic Deluxe Belek has an Olympic Pool as does Regnum Carya Belek - latter more 5*.

PP took me back about Sheraton Salobre - stayed there about 8 years ago - fab location and pool, food /servic a bit hit/miss but loved our holiday- inc getting dropped off in middle f nowhere at 2am to await a taxi o take us there.

justaweeone · 12/08/2018 10:41

Glacier
That's a shame
What about this one?

I worked there in the mid 80's,it's been upgraded quite a bit since then.
Location is good as it's right on the beach.

GlacierMints · 12/08/2018 10:45

These are all great suggestions - I'm not looking for an Olympic sized pool by the way, I'm not Rebecca Adlington or anything!! Grin

A solid 25m pool would do me as long as it is attached to a 5 star hotel!

I was just making the point that an Olympic sized pool is very long because it seems that a lot of trip advisor users think 25m is Olympic when it is 50m

That looks perfect @justaweeone

Just awesome - which was what I thought your username was!

The Scarlet has an indoor pool and an outdoor pool. Both with ridiculously comfy loungers.
Can't recommend it enough.

Madeiramosaic · 12/08/2018 11:37

The panina has a 50m pool. Portugal so not too far.....

MiddleClassProblem · 12/08/2018 13:26

Actually plenty don’t have a current

MiddleClassProblem · 12/08/2018 13:33

My suggestion although you may not like it as a lap pool

A Parador in Spain or Pousada in Portugal. Spain would be my preference, especially if I could visit Granada again - The Alhambra, so fragile now and difficult to get tickets for, but to die for. Nearest airport is Malaga but you need a car hire.

Paradors and Pousadas are in converted historical buildings, monasteries, palaces, castles, so atmospheric.

Check on water restrictions for Spain and Portugal, they're suffering in some places.
