To want GPs help losing weight

I have an 8 month old, and during pregnancy and the first few months post partum I ballooned from an already big 15st to 18st. I tried slimming worldd but found myself being to leanient with the Syns, so I just started calorie counting instead. I cut out all dairy, and am eating a diet mainly of chicken and veggies. I rarely eat over 1300 calories, and I go to the gym twice a week and swimming twice a week. I've really tried to flip my life style around since March but haven't even lost a lb! In fact all that's happened is I've got stretch marks 10x worse than before in random areas (neck, forearms, etc.) It's really draining to put so much work in and feel like I'm getting nothing from it. I have PCOS and was told it can be difficult to lose weight with this but I don't really understand it. The doctor just keeps telling me to keep going. I wish they could help more.

AIBU to ask for more help from the GP. My weight makes me very anxious and I struggle with my breathing when I lie down. The stretch marks make me want to wear long sleeves all the time as they're bright red.

I'm sure I've read about a specific diet for people with PCOS as other diets may not really help. Hopefully someone more helpful will come along with some info that will actually help more

Has your GP ruled out Cushing’s syndrome as a cause of your problems?

ineedtocalm · 10/08/2018 23:06

It might be partly that you’re not eating enough. Sometimes when our bodies don’t get enough of what they need, they hold onto what we’ve got.
I don’t see why you shouldn’t go to the doctor but I would try going back to slimmers world or weight watchers first.

You said you were leanient with the syns, it might be worth trying to do it properly and seeing if that works for a while

cuckoonut · 10/08/2018 23:10

@fishesgirl no, my previous GP mentioned Cushing's before I was pregnant but I moved away and this GP hasn't mentioned anything. What is this?

That sounds crap and poor you you are trying so hard. Re PCOS and diet the only thing that has worked for me is the GI. That was pretty kids though, I don't have the energy now!

peoplearemean · 10/08/2018 23:13

Pre kids not pretty!

I understand the struggle with weight and pcos. Have you read about Keto diet? With pcos it’s about keeling carbs very low, and Keto diet works really well. I found it hard initially as you can’t have so many fruits and veggies too, but once you get into the swing of things it’s not too bad.
I’ve also loved using the app, myfitnesspal and the community are wonderful!

I would pay a visit to GP too, ask to have thyroid checked and to check whether you are insulin resistant (pcos ladies tend to be).

Good luck

That sounds really difficult. I would up your calories - 1300 at 18 stone isn't a lot and your body is maybe trying to hold on to the weight. I'm on the fitness guy programme and have just under 1500 cals every day x

Cuckoo-it’s a rare condition caused by high steroid levels that has weight gain and red/purple stretch marks as symptoms (among many others). It’s sometimes misdiagnosed as PCOS.
