To ask if you’ve ever made a claim for unfair dismissal?

Were you successful? What were the circumstances?

DH got sacked today - under circumstances I’m not sure are even legal...

Looking to see wether it’s even worth the time or energy perusing it, and what other peoples experiences are like

I do know that it's up to the employer to prove that they haven't been unfair, which can be really difficult.

My employer let someone go a few years ago - she claimed it was because she was pregnant and even though it wasn't, we couldn't prove it, so were advised she'd likely win. It was settled out of court and she got several thousand pounds.

There’s loads of free legal stuff on the web on unfair dismissal, but to cut a long story short if it’s unfair dismissal not because of whistleblowing or discrimination then the payout is capped at 80k or so gbp. Payout is not meant to punitive but compensatory.. so the tribunal would work out how much time befire he gets reemployed etc as the amount you would get if you win your case. Then u need to subtract legal fees.
The good news is many law firms provide free 20-30 Mins initial free advice ( even top tier firms) so I would go call a lawyer and see what they say about the merits of your specific case and whether it’s worth pursuing

How long was he employed at that place? There is usually a 2 year qualifying period for UD.

Yes, I was fired first morning back after maternity leave. The sales director’s wife had acquired my job title, office & team.
I had legal cover on my house insurance which paid for a lawyer & a barrister, apart from the first meeting.
They eventually paid me a year’s salary two days before the tribunal date but it was very stressful. It took 10 months.

Probably quicker and more relevant advice can be given if you could share your dh's circumstances?
