AIBU to let my 11 year old see a 12A film with an adult?

My son, who will be 12 at the beginning of October, wants to go to the cinema with a friend without me. I'm happy to allow this if I drop off and pick him up (I have 3 younger children). My son suggested Incredibles 2, but his friend who is already 12 has seen it and his mum has suggested Antman and the wasp which is a 12A. I am happy to let him watch it, but unsure what the checks are at the cinema and whether it is unreasonable to say yes, buy a ticket and then find they won't let him in. It's an Oden cinema. What sort of checks do they carry out? Is he likely to have any issues?

How are they going to know that he's not 12? They're not going to expect that he carries a passport around with him.

Do you mean without an adult? I’d guess they won’t get in.

NynaeveSedai · 10/08/2018 14:16

They won't check. Don't worry

ThePricklySheep · 10/08/2018 14:16

Really? That seem irresponsible of them.

Yes without an adult. His friend is old enough. I wondered if he said he was 12, would they ask for proof or just accept it?

Dinodan · 10/08/2018 14:17

My 10 year old got in to see a 12a with friends. They didn't even ask how old they were.

Figgygal · 10/08/2018 14:17

Is the concern that you haven't had a chance to watch it first and consider if it's suitable or that they're under 12 and might not get in?

I'd have no problem letting him watch it at 11

12a means under 12s can see it if with an adult

It will depend on the cinema. My 11yo dd and her friend got away with this last week but I stayed with them until I knew they were in and had a back up film choice.

It’s a rite of passage! At old eleven he’ll be absolutely fine and feel so grown up.

At that age they won’t so much as bat an eyelid, if he was trying to get into an 18 that would be another story!

4monkeysandamadhouse · 10/08/2018 14:18

I'm not concerned about him watching it, just that he may be turned away if they don't think he is 12.

(sorry, misread OP and thought from title it was with)

If he looks old enough they probably won't check, 12 year olds tend not to carry id
