To ask you to plan my pre-surgery weekend?

I'm having surgery next week and will be laid up for a month or so afterwards. In preparation for a chunk of time watching tv etc, I thought I'd use this weekend to get organised and not waste any tv watching skills while I'm still mobile!

So far I'm thinking of going shopping for books, some nice 'spa' treats etc to keep me occupied while I'm off.

But what else would you spend this weekend doing - practical or fun?!

Am in London so world is my oyster really!

Yeah I'd probably shop for bits that will make you feel happy and cosy at home like a nice new candle/curtains/rug/duvet cover can really cheer the place up and make home a place you want to be. I'd go for a nice lunch, pop into Rituals and get some nice bath stuff and order an online shop with a big box of washing powder and other heavy things you might not want to lift after your operation.

Good luck and enjoy your weekend!

AnoukSpirit · 09/08/2018 18:02

If lifting, reaching and carrying is going to be an issue, could be worth spending time making sure all the things you'll need for daily life are easily accessible and your favourite box set or whatever isn't stashed on top of the wardrobe or something.

I'm a bit boring, so I'd probably be focused on making sure I'd set things up to be as easy as possible for afterwards in case it hit me harder than anticipated. So being on top of washing, not about to run out of anything significant, meals planned, having comfy blankets and pillow stashed downstairs ready for TV marathons, etc.

Have you got a plan for what you'll do if you're struggling with pain or whatever and sick to death of TV and need an alternative pick me up?

AnoukSpirit · 09/08/2018 18:05

Oh, and I'd do something random and fun that I'd been putting off or had occurred to me but hadn't gotten around to it. Then it won't feel as crap not being able to do stuff for a while. Hopefully. Like the zoo or something you can get childishly excited about and take photos of to flick through later.

I think making the flat accessible is a good idea. I'll have someone around to help cook, clean etc so that's taken care of.

Thinking I might pop into M&S and get some massive pants this weekend as well (surgery is abdominal, not just being weird Grin)

I had big surgery recently and I bought massive pants (also abdominal and genius!) and new sheets/duvet so that everything would be nice when I got home. It did help a bit I think. Also a few new sets of PJs for hospital- giant sizes on the bottom. Well even more giant that usual I should say.

Other than that I tried not to think about it too much- not helped by realising I was stood next to one of my oncologists in Asda.

DerelictWreck · 09/08/2018 22:09

Namechange where did you get your massive pants from? Any massive pant tips?!

Im having surgery to next week...good luck opFlowers

I went all out- M&S! Not the full brief style as those are genuinely terrifying! But up two dress sizes I think.

That was April and the scar has healed completely but I still wear them on lazy days!

Bellyscreen · 09/08/2018 22:15

What sort of thing do you like doing? ‘Touristy’ London things? The Zoo? Museums? Take advantage of being mobile!

DerelictWreck · 10/08/2018 10:26

Ok so, so far I've got

  • Go to M&S and by ginormous pant, elastic waistband trousers/pjs and some of those vests with soft bras in
  • Go to lush/rituals etc and get some pampering stuff
  • Buy books, boxsets, jigsaws for entertainment
  • Try to get some of my autumn wardrobe sorted now so I'm ready for work in September - I need new boots etc
  • Make sure the house is as clean and tidy as possible, organised by need!
