It is soon my birthday, and yesterday I recieved a notification on my phone a parcel is due to be delivered today. It is from a well known luxury cosmetics brand, and one my family send me gifts from. So I thought it was one of my birthday pressies on it's way. This morning the item arrived, I opened it, no message but a very nice cosmetic item none the less.
Fast forward to this afternoon I recieve a text from family member asking if i had received a parcel they had claimed as a free welcome gift mistakenly addressed to me. Before I could answer, the company were on to me asking if i could return the item asap so they could send it out to the correct address.I said I couldn't as at work, so they said don't worry keep item we'll send another to family member. Family member is then back on the phone to me saying keep the item, and then asks if I want it for my birthday present!
So the freebie they got, I have now got and I can't really turn round and say no I don't want your freebie, go and buy something you tight wad, but it feels a bit shit really, I feel like asking them if I should go and buy my own after thought card too!

You sound pretty ungrateful.

You're not entitled to gifts.

Madbengalmum · 09/08/2018 18:51

Nope, not entitled and neither are they to the gifts I carefully select and spend money on for them. Freebies however, are exactly that, free, and weren't intended for me!

Then don't give them out. If you think it means a reciprocal arrangements then it's not a gift. Hmm

So what? You only seemed to be bothered when you found out it was free. Says more about you than them. 'I don't like this gift because it was free! Waaaaaa!!!' is a poor attitude to have.

OkMaybeNot · 09/08/2018 18:59

So? It's a gift now. What difference does it make whether they paid for it or not, would you be able to get it for free if you wanted?

You liked it before you knew it was a free gift.

Tinkobell · 09/08/2018 19:05

Oh fgs, a gift is a gift isn't it?! They thought of you and you liked the gift. Do you expect them to have sweated blood for your gift OP? You could given them free Merlin vouchers off Kellogg's cereals though for Christmas though 😂

My sister regifted me some luxury bath stuff I was just glad she gave it to me!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 09/08/2018 21:32

But they didn’t think of her, did they? If MAC or whoever hadn’t said to keep it and they’d send another, then one or the other would have been left without.

It wasn’t chosen for OP it was a case of ‘huh, I made a mistake and not only has the company covered that for me, they’ve also provided a gift for a relative I forgot about’.

DesignStatement · 09/08/2018 21:37

Tell them you have now sent the freebie back. They can't check!

That’s just petty though isn’t it?
