To change the light fittings

Posting here for traffic....We are selling our house, I have some really nice (and pricey) light fittings in our current house from the likes of Laura Ashley, John Lewis etc. The sale contract states window treatments and light fittings included in sale whch I was ok with but now I'm packing up but I want to take my nice fittings with me! WIBU to change them to cheaper fittings and bring my posh ones with me?

Will the fittings actually be right for your new place anyway?

That is stealing.

Llama, John Lewis do some pretty expensive fittings. I have 2 which were £250 each (though I got em off ebay!!!) and they are only a small glass bowl and rose. Look lovely though!

Ask the question, you can't end up in a worse position then you are now and the buyers may not want your fittings anyway

Next time take down the expensive lights before putting it on the market.

Well yes Or mark on the form they aren't included before exchange. After that stage you've basically sold em. 🤣

Our seller did do this actually, one of the rooms had no light fitting, hadn't even when we'd viewed it, we assumed it never had had one, wondered what switch was for like a pair of idiots, called an electrician in to fit one and he was all "oh yeah. The wiring is just hidden by the beam, someone just snipped the fitting off and removed it"

Fair play to them, they didn't want to sell it so removed it before viewings.

I agree, JL do some lovely and expensive lights. But they’re not irreplaceable limited editions or vintage pieces. OP could easily buy equally nice new light fittings with the money saved by not having to pay the new owners to let her take the existing lights.

When we sold our house we had some 1920s original lamp shades that we wanted to take with us so we told the estate agent and solicitor that they were certainly not to be included with the house (when they were removed they still left the light bulb and the fitting just not the shades)

We clearly put it on the form too, in caps so no miscommunication could happen

Although the buyers did ask if they could buy them off us, we wanted them for new house and said no sorry, which they were fine with cos they had been told beforehand

I think though that if you hadn't made it very clear beforehand that they might think they have bought them with the house but it still might be worth asking cos in our new house we arrived to their old light fittings which quickly came out for our vintage ones to be fitted in their place
