Dd 8 months has a cold, tonight so far has been a repeat of last night. She can't / won't sleep lying down. Cot won't tilt up so I've got her in pram tilted up with white noise playing , humidifier on, dark except for nightlight, she has had calpol. She's crying uncontrollably. She only stops when I pick her up. I'm alone with her and am scared of falling asleep holding her. I'm so tired and I don't know what else to do!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, get what mouse funky recommended.

SeaToSki · 09/08/2018 01:57

She might have an ear infection. They hurt like the devil. If she is still a mess tomorrow, try the GP to get her checked. Hang in there tonight.

Claireshh · 09/08/2018 02:08

I was going to say ear infection too. It’s agony when they lie down.

If you haven’t given Nurofen give that. Putting towels under the top end of the mattress really does help.

I would take her to the doctors tomorrow. It really does sound like she is in pain. X

CornishFairing · 09/08/2018 02:34

Came back into lounge and rocked her, gave her another bottle and some nurofen . Finally asleep in pram which is tilted up a bit , white noise on, but stirring a lot due to blocked nose. Deffo taking to docs tmrw ... best sleep (on sofa) as no idea how long she'll sleep for. Thanks again all x

Aw, brilliant. Sleep well Cornish

ScrubTheDecks · 09/08/2018 02:44

Oh, so so tough for you, and your baby.

My guess is also ear infection, if she couldn’t tolerate lying down.

Fingers crossed the Nurofen works for a while. Keep the doses going as recommended.

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 09/08/2018 02:45

You poor things. It's a bloody n when they get a cold. Hopefully this is the worst of it and she will be feeling a bit better in the morning. Fingers crossed she does a nice long stretch for you now. Unmumsnetty hugs and FootballBrew for you.

Claireshh · 09/08/2018 02:46

I hope you both get some sleep xx

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 09/08/2018 02:46

**nightmare, obviously!

tinymeteor · 09/08/2018 02:50

This is a bit late for last night but might help you/somebody in the future.

Mine is now 13 months but ever since he was tiny, taking him outside for a bit has helped when he’s inconsolable. My partner usually takes him, walks him around the garden for a bit and he often falls asleep in his arms, though we did use the pram (safe for overnight sleeping) when he was small.

mintich · 09/08/2018 07:25

Snufflebabe ointment, Calpol plug-in, nasal aspirator.

CornishFairing · 09/08/2018 08:53

Managed to sleep from 2.30-6. Docs at 2pm.

She done three very loose poos today already and has projectile vomited a whole bottle of milk - suspect she gagged on some of the thick green snot that's coming from her nose, must also be in the back of her throat? She's a very strong gag reflex anyway.

Going to try another bottle in short bursts soon then perhaps a nap. Still rotating nurofen and calpol. I have a saline nasal spray and an aspiration but she will not let me near her nose with them.... I've tried some fairly firm pinning down but was scared of hurting her.

Will get some snuggle babe rub when I go out.

I can decide if this is worse than colic or not.....

Should I be additionally worried that she's done three runny poos already today ? She did 3 runny ones throughout the whole of yesterday.

mintich · 09/08/2018 09:01

I used to have to pin her down. She hated it but seemed so relieved when I sucked all the snot out!

igglepigglegingin · 09/08/2018 09:25

Hi OP how's her temperature doing? Is she feverish?

SplishSplashSplosh · 09/08/2018 09:32

My saviour has always been the Calpol plug ins (available in Boots, although I am sure you can find in it other shops too). It''s about £5 and worth every penny IMO

Plug in an hour before bed time and leave on during the night. Will help unblock her nose and breathe easier. I have even used it when I have been ill.

(If the blue night light is too bright, you can always cover it).

Hope she's better soon. X

knowsmorethansnow · 09/08/2018 09:38

Babies can get upset tummies with cold and snottyness because they end up swallowing it.

WoahBaby · 09/08/2018 09:42

It might the super crap combo of cold/virus plus teething? So sorry OP, we're here with you feeling your pain. The only other thing extra I would do is the calpol plug in and some teething gel. Literally cover all bases until the docs. Hope little one feels better soon xxxx

liquidrevolution · 09/08/2018 10:31

Calpol plug ins are amazing definitely worth getting imo. I also use when I have a cold Blush

Don't try and do too much today just rest as much as you both can.

CornishFairing · 09/08/2018 11:45

Woahbaby, think you could be right !

Calpol plug in plus sniffle babu rub on shopping list.

She took mercy and nodded off for 80 mins in pram so I got a wee nap , amazing what an hour or so can do for sanity !!

jazzyfizzles · 09/08/2018 20:34

If it is teething, anbesol liquid (not the gel) is amazing stuff! It came highly recommended to me so I got some and it's brill! X

jarhead123 · 09/08/2018 20:36

Oh bless you.

No advice really as it was ages ago for me, but I do remember this feeling well. It won't last forever. xxx

jarhead123 · 09/08/2018 20:37

Just thought, can someone have her for you for a few hours (day or night) so you can sleep?
