To wonder why I have been turned down for credit?

Posting mainly for traffic here...

It’s my son’s birthday at the end of August, and I want to get him a wooden garage. Google it, and found a lovely one from some shopping site called Studio, it wouldn’t give me an option to check out immediately, just an option to spread payment, or to receive an invoice and clear it. Opted to receive an invoice. I don’t remember putting much information in. My name, address (I’ve lived here one month) email address and date of birth.

They’ve now emailed to say I haven’t been successful in getting an account? Just checked my credit rating as I know I have good credit, and it’s excellent.

AIBU to ask if anyone has come across this company before? I’m not setting up an account to get the £25 garage the APR is extortionate!

Well it could be the new address thing but in all honesty it sounds really fishy, there are lots of wooden garages around, I'd keep looking!

I worked for a credit company, there are a few reasons why you could be turned down for credit, despite having an excellent credit score.

Recently changed address and not updated on electoral roll, not having any credit at all, having a high utilization of credit, defaults, not being able to confirm identity, too many credit searches in a short space of time.

The only people who will be able to provide you any information would be the credit reference agencies.

I'm sure I bought something from studio, i had to open an account there wasn't an option to pay by debit card and they were supposed to send a statement or something I can't remember. In the end I logged into my account at a later date and cleared it.
The company is quite legit I think they do it like that to get people to buy more as they have more time to pay it back and they can then charge interest.
But I don't know how you didn't get an account maybe it was the length of time you've lived at your address?

I have had a look on my credit file, I have a mortgage, phone bill, credit card which is used and cleared monthly. £15,000 limit on it too. No other debt. No defaults, 2 late payments from 2014 when I was a student and paying my phone bill came second to a night out.

Assuming it’s because I have only been in my house a month then, they asked me my current address, but didn’t ask me for 3 years as they normally do.

To be honest, I didn’t know I was signing up to get a credit check, I assumed it was just like signing up to pay, which is why I was so shocked when I got the email saying I’d seen turned down for an account. What’s even more confusing is that there is no credit search showing on my credit report.

I have a studio account... but o2 won’t let me get an extra account. It’s all strange.. my credit isn’t really good but isn’t really bad. Despite being on the electoral role and paying everything on time. I think maybe they checked your credit rating and realised they probs wouldn’t make ny money out of you as you will most likely pay on time.

I’ve figured it out.

Basically, I put down my OH work address as the delivery address as I’m out and about over the next two weeks. They didn’t do a credit check, but a fraud check, where they basically check I am who I say I am. Obviously I failed that as I put a random address down.

Will still be shopping around though!
