To keep MY bin

Very first world problem:
My ds decorated our bins with stickers. Very identifiable. A few weeks ago our blue bin went missing after being emptied and we were left with a grotty one with broken lid. Two weeks later new neighbours put out "our" bin. Ds (age 7) saw it and went to bring it back, was stopped by new neighbour. Explained that ds had decorated the bin so we knew it was ours, new neighbour walked in her house and back out wrote a big house number and said no it's ours.
Fine not arguing over a bin.
Then our black bin disappeared. We were left with a gross maggot covered bin with the reminants of a girls party stuck to the bottom (plates, cups). My ndn had a party for her daughter a few days before so I suspect it was hers. This morning our bin was back, so ds bought it back. The gross stand in bin was left with others (I had cleaned it out but for some reason endless flies buzzing around so had put fly/ant killer around lid).
Ndn has just demanded the return of the other bin. I said no, sorry the bin is ours it's identifiable, I took the left over janky bin last week, either take that one or ring the council for a new one and make hers identifiable.

No way are ybu! Stick to your guns... it’s your bin.

Racecardriver · 08/08/2018 13:59

Just take is back and report her to whoever you report for these things.

Magicstar1 · 08/08/2018 14:00

Tell her to get lost...and take back your blue bin too!! I can't believe you let the cheeky cow take it the last time

Racecardriver · 08/08/2018 14:00

Keep doing it if she does it again.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 08/08/2018 14:01

How rude. Out of principle I wouldn't back down.

bridgetreilly · 08/08/2018 14:01

Wow, some people are truly awful. Your bin is your bin, they aren't free for all swaps. I'd be investing in some number stickers pronto, and supergluing them on.

Singlenotsingle · 08/08/2018 14:03

No you aren't being U. The ndns are CFs! Why don't you just ring the council and ask for replacements? They're free (or in our area they don't charge). You really will have to make them identifiable though, otherwise they'll go walkabout too.

Put both your door number and stickers on your
all your bins then tell your neighbour where to go.

If she takes your bin in before you do to her house just take it back.

Ahardmanisgoodtofind · 09/08/2018 20:35

Well after double checking that the bin was definitely mine, I painted my house number on the front back and lid. Went out today. I've just been put to put rubbish in the bin and noticed a sticker on the floor. Opened my gate and there were several more. All the character stickers have gone off my bin. But not off my green bin ( which has the same stickers, they were from a set ds had years ago) I strongly suspect ndn has attempted to take back MY bin. When dh gets home im going to ask my other ndn if she heard the dog going insane at any point today (which she only does when someone gets close to the front/back door)

Yacht varnish might work, it stinks until dry but waterproofs and is thick so should stop stickers being pulled off. They sell small pots in Poundland. Either that or paint bright strips onto all the bins as well as the house number so they would have to spend ages scraping it off?

DrivetPrive · 09/08/2018 21:11

Stripes not strips.
