to not want car seat fitted so early?

Short story. Baby not due until mid November. Car seat has arrived and DP is going to get it fitted in his car today. I think we should wait as if he has an accident (in sure he won't) we will end up having to buy a whole new one. Seems silly having a car seat fitted 3 months early!

AIBU to be annoyed that he's not listening to me and because it is going in his car he's going to get it fitted today when I'm at work?

*I'm sure

Just fit it yourself a week or so before your due date. We did ours the day before my c section which is probably not ideal but 3 months is bonkers. He could go to be shown how to do it then take it out again. It’s nto hard though!

dinosaurkisses · 08/08/2018 11:22

Yanbu- what is his reasoning?

Why would you want to reduce the space in your car on a completely unnecessary bulky car seat before you absolutely have to?

BlingLoving · 08/08/2018 11:24

I honestly don't understand why either of you are getting worked up by this. DH is being ridiculously cautious getting it fitted already, but that's his problem. You are also being ridiculously over reactive getting upset about it. As long as he doesn't expect you to do anything, why do you care?

Also, why is he "getting it fitted"? Can't he just put it in himself?

TheDarkPassenger · 08/08/2018 11:24

Your insurance will pay for a new one if he crashes, whether there’s a child in it or not

Celebelly · 08/08/2018 11:26

I wouldn't really be bothered. If my DP was in an accident bad enough to wreck the car seat, then buying a new one would be the least of my worries... If he wants to get it fitted now I don't see any harm.

BlueBug45 · 08/08/2018 11:28

You are both over reacting.

He's probably just excited because the baby car seat is another sign which means he's becoming a father.

Let him fit the car seat then convince him to take it out by going shopping to get bulky stuff or to the tip where you need to get rid of bulky stuff, so you need the space.

CarSeatStress · 08/08/2018 11:32

Ok, maybe IABU then. It was more that he didn't listen to me and has since waited until I'm going to work to get it fitted.

It's an isofix base and we are both much more comfortable having someone else fit it. I tried to fit one in to my cousins car once and it was bloody confusing and we were both just paranoid that we had done it wrong!

Of course at the time if he had an accident I wouldn't be thinking about the car seat - just trying to be sensible but I can see I'm probably overreacting...

I think its the same thing as buying baby clothes and stuff when three months pregnant. You don't need it for ages but it feels so good to do it and makes the baby more real. I think that the car seat is DH's (less cute) version of baby clothes.

Also, it is a non-matter. Let it go.

Cutesbabasmummy · 08/08/2018 11:35

Isofix is really easy to fit. Is he just having the base fitted? If so not too much of an issue but he will have to take the car seat out of the car to put the baby in it to bring it home!!

MaryShelley1818 · 08/08/2018 11:36

I just can’t understand why you’re not just putting it in the car yourself. I’ve never heard of anyone needing someone else to fit it for them.
But...if you’re really not able to do it, what does it matter. Just let him put it in when he wants. Huge fuss about nothing.

CarSeatStress · 08/08/2018 11:37

I think I am probably just being emotional and silly and should just let it go and let him get it fitted. Ugh, I feel like I'm turning in to an anxiety monster.

OP posts:
CarSeatStress · 08/08/2018 11:37

@MaryShelley1818 he's picking it up from the store and they do free fittings. Why not?

Jackieyoulooknice · 08/08/2018 11:38

The whole point in isofix is so people can't make mistakes. You just click it in... You really don't get those fitted.

Winterbella · 08/08/2018 11:42

YABU to think you need some one else to fit the car seat, what are you gonna do if you need to transfer it to another car. Baby car seats are not permanent follow the instructions anyone with half a brain can do it. Hmm

CarSeatStress · 08/08/2018 11:42

@Jackieyoulooknice I have no idea I tried to fit one of the old ones in my cousins car and it was extremely awkward but maybe they've changed. I've never used one before and presumed that as mothercare did free isofix fittings that they were necessary. Just something that's easy to do seeing as we will be there to pick up the seat!

I get I though I am grumpy and BU

CarSeatStress · 08/08/2018 11:44

@Winterbella alright no need for the sarcy comment or 'Hmm' - clearly I am clueless.

OP posts:
Winterbella · 08/08/2018 11:46

The fact that common sense is taking a back seat is reason enough dear

CarSeatStress · 08/08/2018 11:48

@Winterbella ha! My common sense disappeared about two months ago. Thanks for reminding me though.

It's nice he's just excited. But I can see your point too.
