To be scared to have my implant out today

Governoress86 · 08/08/2018 08:28

I am due to have my implant outing just over an hour.

I have read horror stories of the trouble of having it out and the side effects after and now I'm petrified.

I'm a very anxious person in general and having the implant in has has not helped on that front as it has made me worse.

I suppose I just need someone to say it will be fine lol

Hopefully it's all done now but I was a little anxious about mine even though I've had a few. It's allowed Flowers

Cismyass · 08/08/2018 09:51

Go to the chemist and buy some Emla cream (£4 approx). Apply thickly to the area around the implant. Cover with cling film. Leave for an hour. Numb as you like. You're welcome (body piercer and tattooist here!).

I'm sat in the waiting room and just lol at the breast implant removal. I'm starting to feel a bit sick.

For those who’ve had them removed - can you get it replaced at the same time? My current GP doesn’t do them, and the clinic they told me to call hasn’t answered the phone! I’d like to know so I can plan the changeover...

LoveInTokyo · 08/08/2018 10:15

I had three back to back, with the new one going in as soon as the old one was out.

DobbyisFREE · 08/08/2018 10:23

Yes, this is typically the process for the replacement. They put it back in the gap where it's taken out. They do that twice then switch arms for the third.

Governoress86 · 08/08/2018 11:33

I have had it out. The numbing shot hurt but otherwise one. I panicked a bit but glad it's all over .

I was trying to figure out whether this is in relation to a breast implant, dental implant. Now I see you mean contraceptive implant.

Lots of implants out there...

PenCreed · 08/08/2018 12:23

Glad you survived OP! I’m not looking forward to getting mine sorted in a couple of months

hellsbellsmelons · 08/08/2018 13:03

There's nothing to it and you now know that.
Glad it went OK.
Can't advise on periods after having it removed because there is no way on this planet I want to go without an implant until I am well past the menopause.
No periods works for me.

chicken75 · 08/08/2018 16:26

Hope its not sore Op. Mine is ok today. Bit gutted I can't swim for 5 days though.

Governoress86 · 08/08/2018 16:44

It's starting to be a bit sore now but it's not too bad at the moment. I have to leave the bandage on for 48 hours though.

I feel relieved it's all over and done with.

The nurse was going to insert another one but I corrected her and said I won't be having another one in.

I have had an horrendous 3 years on it and my gp refused to take it out and just kept telling me to give it time.

I have the same issue. Horribly depressed and no-one will remove it for me. At this point I think I might have to remove it myself Sad

ShowerGel9 · 08/08/2018 16:58

I'll confess...I have never had one...I just wanted to reassure you early on. Glad you are ok Grin and was very brave

Governoress86 · 08/08/2018 17:05

I ended up having to go to the sexual health clinic to get mine done.

Have you got one near you dobbyisFREE?
They will take it out for you if you explain to them about the symptoms you are having.

Awe thank you showergel9. It helped along with everyone else.

I do think Gp's try to talk you in to an implant. Although to be fair I can see why. Obviously it doesn't suit all which is where the failings are.
I was lucky it worked, stopped my periods completely , but I'm very aware that other ladies are not as fortunate.

Governoress86 · 08/08/2018 18:42

I was just unlucky with mine, I bled 4 weeks then had 2 week break for the whole 3 years, I have gained quite a bit of weight which I'm hoping to shift now it's out, my mood swings are all over the place, my anxiety and panic attacks are through the roof and I have never had so much acne or hair fall out.

I thought my periods would stop altogether whilst on it that's why I opted for it. How wrong was I lol

Yes but they have had funding cuts so they no longer offer their service to anyone over 25 (I'm 27)

Why is that? One of the first conversations after I gave birth is I should consider contraception and recommended an implant. My brother who is a GP also suggested an implant wtf? Like drug pushers.

Because it’s basically a guarantee the system won’t need to provide you maternity care for the next 3-5 years.

blueshoes · 09/08/2018 12:05

eeanne, that makes sense.

Do GPs get some extra funds from the government if they manage to convince a patient into having an implant? It feels as if they work on commission. It also explains the reluctance to remove it.

Musicaltheatremum · 09/08/2018 12:44

We get paid a small amount to put them in and take them out as it eases the pressure on the sexual health clinics. So it's not commission but remember all this money we get helps pay our staff and our heating costs and running a building.

harriethoyle · 09/08/2018 12:47

Lol @showergel9 that was really sweet of you! Flowers

Pepper123123 · 09/08/2018 12:48

Having mine put in was far more painful than having it taken out.

It was relatively painless and quick. My arm didn't feel like it had been hit by a sledgehammer for three days afterwards like it did going in either

Governoress86 · 09/08/2018 13:16

To be honest I woke up this morning expecting my arm to hurt like hell, but it's not so bad, just feels like my muscle is a bit bruised today.

I do feel a difference in myself today as in I'm not so anxious and have a bit more energy than what I normally have. My stomach has bloated a bit but not sure if that has anything to do with the implant being removed.

I'm just wondering if it would be ok to take the bandage if today as it is annoying me a bit?
