Someone on our street complained about a fire engine

It was about 4am.
A fire engine was parked on our road with flashing lights but no siren.”
A neighbour came out shouting (and this woke me up). He was shouting at the firemen saying the lights were disturbing him.

If you’re that sensitive to light get blackout blinds.

Is this in any way normal? Someone could be losing their home or life. Admittedly I didn’t see any fire or smoke, but still.

I don’t get why so many people are so negative towards the emergency services. This is not the first story like this recently. He was totally unreasonable!!

dangerrabbit · 07/08/2018 20:59

He’s lucky it wasn’t his house burning down

KellyBailey · 07/08/2018 21:00

Shame they didn't turn the hose on him.

IceCreamFace · 07/08/2018 21:00

Errr no it isn't normal although I do think there was a case of a man writing an angry note on an ambulance which was blocking his drive.

Fluffyears · 07/08/2018 21:00

They should have ‘accidentally’ have hosed him! Make sure he was woken up properly.

SisterNotCisTerf · 07/08/2018 21:03

Right so he’d rather the fire device let him sleep whilst a fire blazed up the street? What a fucking idiot.

SisterNotCisTerf · 07/08/2018 21:04

Device=service

FadedRed · 07/08/2018 21:09

Every village has one. At least you know where yours lives.

PinkCalluna · 07/08/2018 21:10

Years ago a fire engine needed to get down our narrow street which was being blocked by one car.

The firefighters knocked on the door and politely asked the owner to move it. She replied that they could bloody well wait until she was finished drying her hair.

Shock Several years later I’m still shocked that anyone would give that response.

DesignStatement · 07/08/2018 21:15

Some seriously self centred idiots around.

Japanesejazz · 07/08/2018 21:16

The lights should be turned off once they have reached the incident and done their initial assessment

Glumglowworm · 07/08/2018 21:17

I don’t think anyone would think that behaviour is reasonable (I hope not anyway!)

People who obstruct the emergency services or make pointless complaints about them should be heavily fined

Bluelady · 07/08/2018 21:17

It's not very long since someone put an arsey note about parking on an ambulance.

nancy75 · 07/08/2018 21:24

During the snow this year there was a car crash outside my house, there was a police car, an ambulance car & a proper ambulance blocking the road. As I drove up the road I realised I wouldn’t be able to get to my drive so parked my car on the road & walked to my house. Just behind me was one of my neighbours ( about 4 doors up) they pulled right up to the ambulance and started bibbing, then they got out of the car & started screaming and shouting that the ambulance was blocking their way and must move immediately ( they obviously hadn’t seen the police car).
One of the policemen gave the neighbour a proper telling off - I stood in my drive not believing what I was seeing, some people are just arseholes

bluemascara · 07/08/2018 21:26

Some people are dicks
Hopefully karma or natural selection will take care of them

Sparklesocks · 07/08/2018 21:27

There’s always one dickhead...

Lockheart · 07/08/2018 21:28

In fairness do they need the lights on once they're parked up and at the scene?

I remember some years ago when I lived in a ground floor flat an ambulance pulled up (full blues and twos) outside at about 3am. They turned the sirens off but left the lights on and it was like a bloody rave in my room. They left the lights on for 40 mins. I'd never have complained but I'm quite sure regular hazard lights would have sufficed on a quiet residential road at 2am.

HWB a bit U but people are often unreasonable when half asleep and knackered.

Eminybob · 07/08/2018 21:31

Doesn’t surprise me.

When I was a teenager I was at a friends house and we had to call the police as we discovered an intruder in the house (there were no other adults in the house at the time)
When a police car arrived, one of the neighbours tried to clamp it using his own personal clamp as it was parked on what was aparantly his land.
The policeman said, you clamp my car and I’ll bloody clamp you!
This was over 20 years ago and I still can’t believe this guy had no comprehension that the car was there to respond to an emergency!

Eliza9917 · 07/08/2018 21:35

I thought you could be arrested now for obstructing an emergency vehicle?

JAMMFYesPlease · 07/08/2018 21:36

HWDBU but it doesnt surprise me. We live on a stretch of road near a fire station, the police HQ and the local hospital amd at a couple of busy intersections so we get all at least twice a day, if not more. There are always people in our building complaining about the noise.

Birdsgottafly · 07/08/2018 21:37

Why were they there?

BoomBoomsCousin · 07/08/2018 21:41

He was unreasonable to have shouted at them. They may have been unreasonable to have their lights on after they had got to the scene.

Fluffyears · 07/08/2018 21:41

@pinkcalluns I support the right of fire engine etc to just ram obstructing vehicles with no comebacks. You can bet your arse a fire engine could shove most cars with no bother.

kooshbin · 07/08/2018 21:42

I imagine that the reason they keep their lights on is to give ample warning that the road is blocked. Of course, also to numpties that there's a big feck-off vehicle in the way.

I do have to wonder what goes through the minds of people like that. Do they not realise how self-centred they are? Do they ever subsequently cringe with embarrassment?

FrazzledRockRed · 07/08/2018 21:43

I don’t know why they were there. The lights were annoying but I’m sure if he had asked in a normal voice they would have turned them off.
