To think threads shouldn't be deleted half as often as they are?

No thread in particular. I think it's completely unreasonable that threads are pulled so often.

We are presumably all adults here and capable of having discussions and debates without thought police.

Is it because mumsnet are worried about getting sued?

SimonBridges · 06/08/2018 18:42

Some threads do seem to get pulled more than others.
I do get the feeling it’s because they are worried about certain people or groups more that morals.

SimonBridges · 06/08/2018 18:45

I think that we do need to be aware that certain newspapers have nothing better to do than trawl this site so a thread saying something generalising a group would show MN and it’s members in a bad light.

CaptainPugwashed · 06/08/2018 19:12

I had a very personal thread on here posted on an online tabloid website.

I begged MNHQ to remove it yet it took a day.

I think we are all old enough to work out who's being a dick/racist/sexist/whatever without threads being pulled.

SilverySurfer · 06/08/2018 20:25

It drives me mad to read and contribute to a thread, where the majority of posters disagree with the OP who then drip feeds, refuses to accept what people are saying, gets mad, flounces and then gets the thread taken down due to 'concern about RL info being divulged' which is utter bullshit since all we have been told is. eg, that she has a DP, two DC and lives in the UK. Angry

It's even worse if people are sharing what could be upsetting info about their own lives and which could be of help to others reading the thread. An awful lot of good advice disappears at the whim of an OP who doesn't like the responses and has the thread closed down.

MNHQ never did this in the past and I don't understand why they pander to these people.

Of course it's entirely understandable if there's a legitimate reason.

CaptainPugwashed · 06/08/2018 20:34

I completely understand if it's a spam thread or someone deliberately trolling. It really pisses me off though when it's someone's RL experiences and just because the experience doesn't tie in with the PC rhetoric the thread gets pulled.

It's very random as well, there are certain subjects that will inevitably get removed. Others not so much yet they are just as un-PC. I would love to compile a list of each but worried that this thread will be removed 🙄

This site is HUGE. At the first report of anything that might cause issues/litigation etc. threads can be closed.

I would like to see a facility where threads are temporarily closed pending a bit of thought by MNHQ, and then reopened if it is feasible. But that never happens either, it is closed for good!

Some reporters of threads seem to have a lot of power though!, And we never know who the reporters are either...

But look, I have a life outside here. Just commenting WRT to other forums and their modus operandi.

Hope the heck I'm not going to be banned for saying the above, but it is obvious really.

Trazey · 07/08/2018 05:08

You think we're old enough to work out who's being rude/sexist etc yet you aren't old enough to realise that posting a personal thread on a website is a stupid idea if you expect it to remain personal?

"Some reporters of threads seem to have a lot of power though!"

Absolutely. There's a massive hierarchy.

LadyRussell · 07/08/2018 05:49

There is a cohort of posters who think they are detectives and try to hunt down and round on posters who name change (normally for very valid yet unsininster reasons).

When those threads get pulled where you may be recognised in RL I think it’s perfectly valid.

Iknowwhoyouare123 · 07/08/2018 06:08

Can you explain what the MN PC rhetoric is?

Monty27 · 07/08/2018 06:11

Yea but some posters bait others.
And there ain't half some crap on here these days. Grin

“We’re taking this thread down for a bit while we look behind the scenes” - but I have never seen one come back!

Trazey · 07/08/2018 06:51

@Iknowwhoyouare123

You didn't ask me, but, a good example would be a thread saying that correcting someone's SPAG online was ablist / disablist.

You don't think there's a race to be woke?

Iknowwhoyouare123 · 07/08/2018 06:57

When has a thread been deleted for saying correcting someones SPAG is disablist?

CaptainPugwashed · 07/08/2018 06:58

Can you explain what the MN PC rhetoric is?

So for example, a poster starts a thread about how she has been threatened with rape by a group of men. Other posters share their similar stories of violence, theft, pets being killed and intimidation by groups. The thread is removed because it states what group these men came from and this is unacceptable and not in the spirit of mumsnet.

Away from AIBU there are a great number of personal threads. People giving details of their lives (perhaps not identifiable ones, but details nonetheless) in the hopes of getting support and advice. A decision to post on mumsnet is one thing, but to post in the Sun online, Mail online etc is another.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 07/08/2018 07:21

It doesn't really bother me. MN make decisions whether a thread goes or stays. They can only pull them if they are reported, maybe some subjects are reported more than others?

Iknowwhoyouare123 · 07/08/2018 07:23

There are lots of websites you could use if you want to be on threads complaining about specific ethnic groups. I'm glad MN isn't one of them though.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 07/08/2018 07:30

Better safe than sorry

Trazey · 07/08/2018 07:32

"A decision to post on mumsnet is one thing, but to post in the Sun online, Mail online etc is another."

No. Thank you for illustrating your lack of understanding so magnificently.

I didn't mention anything about 'ethnic groups'. This could be catholic priests, transgender women, EDL supporters, pretty much anything.

So if you wanted relationship advice you would write to a tabloid newspaper?

OP posts:
Iknowwhoyouare123 · 07/08/2018 07:51

Yeah, you're not talking about those groups though are you?

CaptainPugwashed · 07/08/2018 07:59

My point is I feel someone has the right to share their experience regardless of the perpetrator.

Something as serious as threatened rape shouldn't be silenced because the victim named who threatened them. Regardless of who it was.

OP posts:
LuluBellaBlue · 07/08/2018 08:03

It annoys me too, I posted about a genuine (very strange and odd) event that happened to me, I wanted advice and thoughts around it.
Because it was so unusual people reported that I was a troll and it was pulled, even after me up loading emails to prove part of it Hmm
It didn’t bother me that much, but then what’s the point of this website and being offered to post something, and then pulling it for no good reason?
