Emergency child passport

Has anyone done this?

My ex is taking dd away in 2 weeks. She is so looking forward to it. It has transpired that her half sisters passport has expired.
Her Mother does not want to put any help into sorting this out. So ex is sorting it out , rightly so.
I am so annoyed with them both as this affects my daughters holiday if it can’t be sorted. Aibu to be annoyed?

Also has anyone sorted a passport ( renewal for a child)at the last minute? A few problems are that the sister lives 300m from my ex ( her dad) agghhh!

You can do it next day if you're prepared to travel to a passport office and hang round for several hours. Make an appointment though.

Dopplerineffect · 06/08/2018 17:45

I don’t think you can for child passports anymore.

You can't do same day but think you can do the accelerated service. Surely he could take your dd anyway?

Dopplerineffect · 06/08/2018 17:50

I think that would be a bit mean on the other sister though if they did go without her. There is another sister too but her passport is in date.

It would be easy if they lived nearby but they don’t.

He could take dd anyway.

I think you can get an emergency passport for children as long as it's not their first child's passport.

First child passport*

Dopplerineffect · 06/08/2018 17:52

The other mother is going away so its his access. He can’t just take my dd anyway.

Maybe the rules have changed.
We had to renew DDs ppt about 10 years ago. Only realised it had expired 48 hours before travelling.

They only do so a one week turn around, not same day or next day. Luckily for me it only took 3 days in the end. You have to go in person.

callymarch · 06/08/2018 17:52

you will need to use the 1 week fast track service, you still have to make an appointment and the passport has to be delivered to home address for a child

Does it matter if the parent taking her to the appointment is not a UK citizen. He is named on the birth certificate.

She doesn't need to be at the appointment

Someone needs to go with all the correct documentation, have it checked and then await delivery a few days later.
As long as he has an original copy of her birth certificate and the old passport (or proof of her eligibility for a passport) it will be fine

I did it for DS a few months ago and it was back in 5 days

Dopplerineffect · 06/08/2018 18:00

Thanks tenbob that’s reassuring but also I have just read that she has to sign it as she is 15.

Aghhh

Sign the application and sign the passport once it's delivered. I don't think she has to sign anything at the appointment- you arrive with all the forms filled in, the photos done and signed and the docs
The appointment is just a bloke behind a screen checking all the paperwork in front of you and doing some additional checks online

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/08/2018 19:55

The child doesn’t need to go and it can be done in a week. App needs to be booked immediately though to get one in time.
