To ask for the best caravan park recommendation on fab beach, Dorset

Hi, hoping to get some recommendations for a caravan park anywhere in Dorset on a really beautiful beach. This is a special holiday to celebrate recovery from serious illness and I'm trying myself in knots trying to find the perfect place. Never been before so any recommendations very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Depends what you're looking for. If you're after peace and quiet have a look at Golden Cap caravan park in Seatown, near Chideock. Nothing but a shingle beach, little hamlet, the most lovely pub, and a shedload of fossils on the beach. Set in farmland with some lovely walks nearby. Caravan park has nice showers and a little kiddy play park. Spent many happy years going back there and lying on the beach watching shooting stars. Take a fishing rod and catch the mackerel as they cross the bay at sunset, then go and chuck them straight on the bbq.

We went to a Haven caravan park, think it's near Poole Harbour, called Rockley Park. Was lovely.

Thank you! Looking for the picture perfect soft sand beaches ideally. Not fussed about being quiet, just someone on a gorgeous beach with nice facilitie! Thank you!

Rockley, although a nice place, has no real beach. It’s a water sport centre so may not be what you want.

Windsweptly · 06/08/2018 12:54

Ah ok, thanks! Seen Waterside recommended on here but can't tell if the beach is nice from their website. Seems to be haven etc but again not sure which beaches look best!

Seems lots are on shingle beaches rather than sandy. Maybe I will have to compromise with shingle if there aren't any caravan parks on sandy beaches!

Eype house caravan park is gorgeous, very close to a sandy/shingle beach

Cyclingforcake · 06/08/2018 15:59

Dorset beaches west of Studland are mainly stone/shingle. Weymouth/West Bay is sandy but not really gorgeous.
How about somewhere near Swanage? We always used to like Tom’s field.

Cyclingforcake · 06/08/2018 16:01

Sorry just seen you want a caravan park. Tom’s field won’t be suitable. There is a caravan park near Durdle Door with amazing views but you’ll have to walk down to the beach. Sorry I don’t know the name as I only ever went there for the day.

Try Hoburne - either Naish (which is just in Hampshire) or Hoburne Park which is in Christchurch and about 10 minutes walk from the beach but lovely.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 06/08/2018 16:11

We've just come back from Highlands End holiday park which is above Eype Beach which is pebbles rather than shingle.

We were won over by pebble beaches in Corfu - the sea seems so much clearer on a pebble beach and there are no problems with sand getting everywhere! You do need water shoes though.

Eype beach was wonderful especially if you turn left and walk further up towards the cluster of rocks. We usually had that part of the beach all to to ourselves and the kids enjoyed jumping off the rocks into the sea.

Cycling - I think it's the Durdle Door Holiday Camp. Great location, but it's a long walk back from the beach to go to the loo!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 06/08/2018 16:21

We went to Durdle Door - it is a fantastic beach but as pp said it is a hell of long climb back up to get to the loo!

Windsweptly · 06/08/2018 16:22

Thank you very much, really helpful! Is the durdle door beach sandy?

No, pebbly, sandy beaches at Studland, Swanage and Weymouth and Bournemouth, pretty much every other beach in Dorset is pebbly

Beach11 · 06/08/2018 16:26

I second Hoburne Park in Christchurch. The park has lovely facilities and the local beach is v nice & a short walk with amenities. Lovely fish n chips at the beach

ineedwine99 · 06/08/2018 16:31

I've been to Swanage Bay View caravan park many many times and it' lovely, about a 10-15 min walk downhill to the beach/village though, meaning an uphill walk back.....
First time there in a few weeks with my toddler and can't wait, have great memories

ineedwine99 · 06/08/2018 16:31

Swanage beach is sandy, Durdle Door shingle

Windsweptly · 06/08/2018 16:43

Thank you very much, going to look into all the suggestions! Only one I've looked at a d checked dates so far is waterside one

Freshwater holiday park at burton bradstock is lovely, you can walk straight on to a shingle beach which has sand when the tide is out. Also indoor and outdoor pools.

DannyDogg · 06/08/2018 16:47

Freshwater has it’s own beach which is shingle but you can walk on the beach to west bay (broad church!) which has sand

Windsweptly · 06/08/2018 16:52

Brilliant thanks

I've been looking at Haven seaview online and it looks really nice but haven't actually been there!

jimjamgirl · 06/08/2018 17:22

Ulwell Cottage just between Swanage and Studland. Both beautiful sandy beaches, especially Studland. Just got back from there and Highlands End near West Bay (pebble beach). We've got a touring caravan but both sites have static caravans.

OopsPardonMrsArden · 06/08/2018 17:25

Beer head caravan park is nice - pebbles though.
