AINU re new tenants using our address before they move in

thiskitten · 06/08/2018 09:52

The tenants who are due to move into our house in 2 weeks have started receiving mail etc at the house already.
I'm slightly concerned about it as one of my friends had her credit score ruined by living at an address with someone with a terrible credit score. From what she said (but may not have been correct) the only association they had was being at the same address at the same time. Obviously I have no knowledge of the new tenants financial situation.
Could this affect us in any way or am I just being a totally unreasonable / paranoid bastard?

Credit scores are individual, not linked to third parties who may share an address

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 06/08/2018 09:54

Your friend has misunderstood. Property is not blacklisted; people are. Therefore it must have been her or some form of identity fraud.

Two weeks before you move out I think is ok, I would have thought, although to be fair I’ve only ever been on the other side when the movers refuse to change their address!

thiskitten · 06/08/2018 09:54

AINU is a typo not some new acronym!

It takes time to get addresses changed with various companies, they're just being organised. They should have asked you first, but I wouldn't worry about it.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 06/08/2018 09:57

They are probably just super organised.

It takes around three working days for the mail forwarding service to start working. They may have learned the hard way to get ahead of the game when there's so much else to be done when moving house.

ScotsinOz · 06/08/2018 11:04

When we sold our house we started receiving mail addressed to the new owners before settlement had taken place. I was 9 months pregnant, and upset at moving due to issues with land we were building on, that instead of leaving the mail in a neat pile on the kitchen bench for the new owners, I marked them all “Return to sender, not known at this address” and dropped them in the closest post box. It wasn’t nice, and I wouldn’t be that mean again, but at the time it felt rational (although totally was not).

FatTory · 06/08/2018 11:50

Credit scores are no longer linked to addressed but are individual xx

SassitudeandSparkle · 06/08/2018 11:55

When I've sold properties in the past, it has been quite exciting to get post for the new occupants because it means it is all going ahead!

Are you not happy about moving thiskitten, like Scots (but please don't return the mail!) Shock

Blobby10 · 06/08/2018 12:06

I panicked when this first happened but it was all to do with insurance and mortgage which they HAD to send to the 'new' address even if the start date of the policy wasn't for another week or two.

In one of our houses, the new buyers ended up with quite a pile of letters !

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 06/08/2018 12:22

They're probably just being very organised. I wouldn't worry about it; just leave the post there when you move out.

rainingcatsanddog · 06/08/2018 12:39

Credit is linked to an individual not the address. I bet it's stuff like house insurance, mortgage company etc

bridgetreilly · 06/08/2018 13:24

I think that's fine, tbh. Just stack the mail up and leave it for them when you go.

thiskitten · 06/08/2018 14:26

Thanks guys. In which case I should probably get organised and start having stuff sent to our new place!

I'm sure they (credit scores) were linked to addresses in the past though? Or am I totally imagining that

@SassitudeandSparkle no I'm very excited about the move (we've bought a family home after 2 years of looking)!

Just I feel like the new tenants have been slightly CFs with other things (like viewing the house 3 times when it's only a rental and I'm at home breastfeeding a newborn and asking if they can have some of our furniture etc)

Credit scores use to be linked to addresses but now they are linked to individuals. This is why it is never a good idea to have family members with the same name as the credit companies can and do mix family members up

Individual companies/organisations can blacklist individual postcodes e.g. NW1 1AA or individual postcode districts e.g. NW1 if a lot of fraud goes on in those areas.

SassitudeandSparkle · 06/08/2018 15:03

Oooh lovely, good luck in your new home Flowers

MKroundabout · 06/08/2018 15:17

Good luck with your OP!

I had a mix up with unreliable debt ridden sister at mother's address. Did no end of damage to my credit score. Glad to hear that this is no longer a problem.

I had a note put on my credit account thingy that disassociated myself with the address and the sister. If there is any comeback, you could do this OP. Now they have changed it, it should be fine though.

MKroundabout · 06/08/2018 15:17

Good luck with your MOVE OP!

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 06/08/2018 15:18

They're just being organised and it will in no way damage your credit score. Whoever told you that has the wrong information.
