I am sorry !!

I have a deadline and it involves a fancy spreadsheet of due dates.

I need help - google has not been my friend.

I basically have a column of dates in excel. I have already formatted those so they turn a different colour when expiration's are met.

However what I really want is for when I put the date completed in the cell next to it that it removes the formatted colour.

Please tell me there is an excel genius on MN who can help me.

There is a light bulb if you ask it a question it will perform the function for you.

You want conditional formatting based on an adjacent cell.

This gives you the answer: stackoverflow.com/questions/27723801/excel-conditional-formatting-based-on-adjacent-cell-value

Not sure how, but you want to nest a IF statement into the conditional formatting, saying That if completion cell is blank “” then format, otherwise don’t

Ooo...never tried it, but this looks like it might work!

www.excel-easy.com/examples/conflicting-rules.html

Basically set conditional formating as you have done, and then set a new rule to stay original colour (assume white with black text) if you've entered a completed date in the adjacent cell. Then click to edit rules and you should see a list of rules you've set. Make sure the new rule is on top of the list and this should trump the other rules. It looks like there are arrow buttons on top of the list to change the order.

This way you just need to set two simple conditional formats (albeit one that considers an adjacent cell) and it should function as you need it too!

Good luck!

I still can't do it :(
