To think that bouncing a fucking basketball for hours is the most annoying thing you can do in a garden?

I KNOW there’s nothing I can do but it’s driving me insane. INSANE.

It’s a tiny garden and it’s CONSTANT and it’s keeping my 3 year old awake.

Plus every time it comes over it destroys a plant.

We have an enormous park next to ours but the residents of the next street don't want their kids kicking balls at their own cars so they send them round the corner to kick them at ours instead. The noise of the balls constantly bouncing and rebounding off the cars is very irritating.

ByeGermsByeWorries · 05/08/2018 20:23

Instead of using the park*

KeepServingTheDrinks · 05/08/2018 20:24

His name was RICO, he wore a DIAMOND

BlankTimes · 05/08/2018 20:40

@Stupomax

Really, they can hear it 3 doors away and have told you.
Imagine how much worse it is for your immediate neighbours.

Please at least limit the time you let him do it, it's a very intrusive noise.

Why not walk up and down your street to see how far the noise of it travels and how many of your neighbours are subjected to it?

Stupomax · 05/08/2018 20:52

Stupo by "not a problem at all" you do realise they meant "are you f'ing joking of course it's a problem and we are really hoping you take the hint"?

They have a school playground 20 yards from their back garden, which also has a basketball hoop in it. They didn't move here for the peace and quiet...

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 05/08/2018 20:53

YADNBU OP! Our ndn is on a basketball team so plays all the bloody time. He is out at 8am in the morning and regularly plays until 9pm at night. When they have friends over and late night parties he will often be out later than that too - NYE he was out well after midnight. (Christmas morning he was out at 7am!)

He is 13 and this has been going on for years. It doesn’t help that he’s also an arrogant little shit who thinks he’s just too cool for everyone else, and he gets that attitude from his parents who are exactly the same, so it’s impossible to approach the issue with them. We can’t sit at the back of our house when he’s playing because the noise just goes through you. My poor DTs (8) whose bedroom is at the back of the house have taken to wearing their earmuffs at night when he’s playing just so they can get to sleep!

Stupomax · 05/08/2018 20:53

I’ve asked a couole of times to stop when DS has been kept up. He does for a bit and then starts up again.

That's not OK at all.

Returnofthesmileybar · 05/08/2018 21:02

Well there's a child outside my window with a fucking whistle for the last half an hour and he is driving the neighborhood dogs as mad as me, I reckon he beats a basketball at the moment, or maybe I should beat him with a basketball 🤔 (half joking obviously)

But yanbu, all balls should punctured (again, half joking)

Stupomax · 05/08/2018 21:10

Imagine how much worse it is for your immediate neighbours.

When DS's net broke my immediate neighbour helped us put up the replacement. I'm guessing he's OK with it.

Why not walk up and down your street to see how far the noise of it travels and how many of your neighbours are subjected to it?

I'm in small town America. If I walked another 3 doors down I'd just find another driveway where kids are playing basketball non-stop, then another 3 doors another driveway where they're playing basketball non-stop.

But when the neighbour three doors down mentioned it I did want to check that it wasn't a problem, and if it was then I'd have limited it. Not much I can do about all the other kids on the street playing.

PerverseConverse · 05/08/2018 22:23

I feel your pain OP. We have this with a fucking lacrosse ball that gets bounced off the walls of various houses along our road. He's been told time and time again. His parents have been told. He still does it but balls stay in peoples gardens if they end up there, or go in the bin. Anti-social and inconsiderate and the ball is just the tip of the iceberg.
I'd definitely not give the ball back unless they ask for it. Or if they do ask, tell them you've taken it to the park where it belongs.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 05/08/2018 22:30

@batshitbetty

Yes to the incessant trampolining!! Drives me insane!

PhilODox · 05/08/2018 22:30

Football against the fence at full pelt is pretty annoying after a couple of hours, particularly when there's a few against the house every now and then too. Hmm
They're so freaking nice and polite when they ask for the ball back too. We have asked them not to bang it against the house, but they forget aftabout ten minutes.

UpstartCrow · 05/08/2018 22:32

KeepServingTheDrinks Great now the thread needs an earworm trigger warning.

Moody123 · 06/08/2018 07:49

I have next door neighbours who F and Blind all the time ... that's worse 😞

BarryTheKestrel · 06/08/2018 08:01

My neighbours eldest son has discovered basketball this summer. Incredibly annoying. Prior to this though we had football and a different ball in our garden every single day.

The whole family are quite inconsiderate when it comes to noise. Think DIY and drilling at 6.45am on a Sunday morning.

I'm starting to worry with DC 2 on the way that we will be matching their noise, however the lady on the other side of us often asks if we've been away as she hasn't heard anything for days (which with a 3 year old having tantrums is miraculous!). We do try hard to be considerate neighbours, it's a shame others don't.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 06/08/2018 08:19

Soorry UpstartCrow not sorry

C'mon, join in, you know you want to...

now it's a disco, but not for lola

Apehouse · 06/08/2018 09:59

I have to tell you that when neighbours steal water from your outside tap to fill a pool right beside the boundary in which their revolting children scream incessantly, that is m o r e annoying. So YABU as regards what is most annoying. But not about the rest.
