Hey 👋 I’m wondering if anyone can offer any help /advice as I’m seem to have royally ducked up!!!!
I’ve received a letter inviting me to an ‘informal disciplinary discussion’ what on Earth is one of them? I’ve missed work a couple of times due to personal issues can not actually cope with this added stress

Does the letter give any indication of the reason? If you've had some unauthorised absences I expect that's why - they are probably going to ask you how you'll ensure it's not an issue going forward. They may warn you that if it happens again you could be in danger of losing your job. If you have personal circumstances causing you problems they may be sympathetic but ultimately you have to make sure you're fulfilling your responsibilities at work.

It's a precursor to a disciplinary procedure.

Does it give any clue in the letter exactly what the discussion is about?

'personal issues' can be any thing from a roaring hang over to your granny passing away, it's a bit of a cover all phrase.

Have you got a union? The letter should let you take a friend in with you for support

What does your work place disciplinary policy say?

When it happened to me it was very low key, NHS , they just wanted to know if l was ok and if there was anything they could do to help or did l need the well being service. It was nothing , l think you are overthinking it my dear , try not to worry. They also wanted to see me as a returned to work and interview .

I'm sorry if this isn't what you want to hear, but I would assume it's a discussion about your repeated absences, so the company can raise its concerns and perhaps state that if you miss many more days they may need to reconsider your appointment? As it's informal I imagine this won't go on your record, but it's an open forum for them to highlight their concerns and for you to respond. This happened recently to a friend.

Sounds like they want to have a chat about something serious - when u ‘missed work’ did you tell them? Take leave? Etc

The meetings not booked until mid
September long time to wait . There has been DV at home , work have sent me home a few times due to appearance . I missed work twice and didn’t call in due to not having access to a phone work is aware what’s going on but I haven’t really discussed it with them . The letter states that I missed work in two days .

I’m completely prepared to accept responsibility for this . I just want to ensure the issue is resolved and I can crack on at work . I don’t understand if it’s disciplinary how it’s informal ?

Have you spoken to Women's Aid or similar about the DV? They might well have advice on how to handle employment-related issues.

NewYearNewMe18 · 05/08/2018 18:35

Its a little chat to see how they can support you, what can be put into place to stop it happening again.

Mid September - cant be that important then,

Vada13 · 05/08/2018 18:44

Was that the end of the matter ?
