Aibu to think £500 after bills and food is a good amount?

By essential costs I mean all food, bus fare, bills and rent etc. so the £500 is just to cover fun things and any extras I want,
Is this a good amount, should I be looking at picking up extra work or is this more than enough? I'd also like to save £50-£100 a month to build up a savings cushion, but if I can't save every month or I save a little less that's ok it's not essential.
Please forgive me if this is a stupid question as I am new to the UK and just trying to work out what my budget will cover. Have posted in chat but no responses yet so posting in another high traffic area...
The only friend I have here has said this isn't enough and that I'll be bored indoors all the time and/or struggling. So now I'm a little worried and thinking about doing overtime.

I think £500 after food and all bills for a single person is a nice amount. You could have a night or 2 out a week, join a gym
with a swimming pool and have enjoyable weekends without any scrimping. You couldn't buy lots of designer clothes and have expensive holidays on top of that but presumably you wouldn't expect to. I don't think you have anything to worry about as long as this amount doesn't also include car repairs, insurances etc.
