To want a fan for each room?

Hubby thinks I'm mad. It's hot. I want to buy multiple fans - one for each bedroom and the living room. He says that'll make me crazy fan lady.

How many fans do you have in your house?

YANBU I sent ds (17) out in his car about 2 months ago to bulk buy some dyson hot&cold fans (so we can use in winter too) and he came home with 8 Grin

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 04/08/2018 22:13

None, but we have the back door and the DC's bedroom window open.

Floralnomad · 04/08/2018 22:15

We have multiple fans , one in each bedroom ( dd also has a ceiling fan) and 2 in the main lounge .

butlerswharf · 04/08/2018 22:16

We have one in each room too. It's bliss right now!

We have two in our bedroom- (I can’t describe how hot our room gets and they are needed- more so with the baby being in with us)
One in each of the other bedrooms -but they are not always used. Seems it’s just our room that is a sauna.
One in the lounge but to be honest it could do with an extra one in there is a rather big room.

LighthouseSouth · 04/08/2018 22:21

hmm....what's the betting those using fans in winter are living in an over insulated hell hole like us?

OP we have 2 fans and this year bought a portable AC because in a tiny flat that's overheated - barely any heating use - it's necessary. So yes, buy as many as you can store. Having a smaller place makes it harder, the heat never really escapes (though of course in a block of flats you are surrouned on all sides!)

Phamous · 04/08/2018 22:44

We have a fan for each bedroom. I get them out in May and they stay until September at least! I love the fan sound and I hate being hot!

KarinVogel · 04/08/2018 23:07

I cant bear oscillating fans so keep mine still and mainly on me !
We only have a couple of fans for the bedrooms but have recently discovered the wonder of USB fans for each person to run from their laptops.
These little wonders have kept us all cool enough to enjoy sitting together in the living room without a huge noisy fan taking up the room.
We bought ours in The range but Ive seen them other places - and so cheap too! I expect they are cheap to run too being USB but thats not the consideration just now. The other plus point is storing them once we no longer need them every minute of the day.

AustrianSnow · 04/08/2018 23:17

One for each bedroom, one for the office and an AC unit. We move the bedroom ones to the living room and kitchen during the day.

BarbarianMum · 04/08/2018 23:21

3 - 1 in each bedroom. In super hot weather we move the one in our bedroom downstairs during the evenings but, in general, it is only our upstairs that gets hot.

I'd love a Dyson fan but not at that price.

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 04/08/2018 23:25

We have one downstairs and one in each bedroom
I carry the downstairs one up with me when I go to bed so I can have 2 facing me and I'm still too hot!

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 04/08/2018 23:26

I also have one on in my bedroom during winter
I despise being too hot and this house is over insulated
I also like white noise.

Jjjjigoo · 04/08/2018 23:28

Three, one in each of the bedrooms that are inhabited.

LockedOutOfMN · 04/08/2018 23:42

We have 3: small ones in each of the DC's rooms and a medium sized one in our dining / living room (open plan), which we take into our bedroom on the occasions that we need it. We are in mainland Spain.

If you want them, OP, buy them. But come winter you might regret taking up storage space with multiple fans. If you need a fan to sleep, you can take one up from downstairs (and slightly offset the ice-cream calories, if you're like me...)

Duskqueen · 04/08/2018 23:50

We have 1 in the front room (an arctic one), 1 in my DD's room, one in my DS's room and 2 in our room.

Twotabbycats · 05/08/2018 00:26

Only 2 - one upstairs that moves between bedroom and my office, and one downstairs that moves between kitchen and sitting room. Have a couple of spares that need minor repairs - I think we need to get them back in use! Only me and DH here though. I would love a super-silent one because every night I start with the fan on, can't sleep because of noise, tun it off, can't sleep because off heat, turn it back on... repeat till morning! Really I want a ceiling fan or dyson... both would necessitate a lottery win at the moment! Have a portable air conditioner but that's even noisier, and there's the venting problem Sad

SusieQ5604 · 05/08/2018 00:48

In Louisiana, many, many of us have ceiling fans and other fans in every room....even if we have central a/c!!!! Because it is suffocatingly hot and humid here!

SusieQ5604 · 05/08/2018 00:50

Also in the winter, if you reverse the ceiling fan direction, it circulated the heated air

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/08/2018 01:09

Why wouldn’t you just dial the heating back a bit rather than paying to heat it too hot, then paying more to cool yourself back down?

In our case; no heat on, windows open, fan on. [hard as nails] I like fresh air, a BIG duvet and a little white noise. Stops people getting sick as well.

Ollivander84 · 05/08/2018 01:14

I don't own one Blush I'll exit the thread now!
Can't sleep with one on so yeah, bit useless for me Grin
I am up north though so not needed often

downinthejunglee · 05/08/2018 01:32

One in each bedroom, and one in the living room, so 5

RedneckStumpy · 05/08/2018 01:38

We have a ceiling fan in each bedroom. We open upstairs windows and turn the fans on and we get a nice breeze through the house

downinthejunglee · 05/08/2018 01:39

I also sleep with a fan on in winter, I like the noise and I have a very thick duvet that gets hot. However it is mostly for the noise

delphguelph · 05/08/2018 01:40

I don't get all this British stoicism /reluctance to be comfortable. It's like some innate protestant guilt or something over being cool in your own home!

Buy the fans so you're comfy, over heating will not win you any prizes! Same for the heating in winter.

Unless you're skint of course.
