To make DD wear a helmet when on scooter?

DD is 3 so she has no opinion.

She’s got a scooter which she likes to ride to Nursery. As is normal with toddlers she’s not exactly steady on it and does sometimes fall off so I’ve been making her wear a basic helmet (you know like the ones you get in Halfords when buying a push bike?)

But I keep getting funny looks and my mum says there’s no need for a helmet on a scooter.

I get funny looks and I don't care - dd is 7 and has never been on her bike or scooter without a helmet. I would much rather have funny looks and defend my decision than dd have a cracked head. No brainier

My 2 are 9 and 10 and always wear helmets. They often cycle or scoot to school, as do several other children, and are generally the only 2 with helmets. Recently a boy at their school fell off his bike on the way to school. I did raise with a teacher on the gate that I was surprised school didn't insist children wore helmets if scooting/cycling to school. Teacher's argument was that they couldn't force people to buy their kids' helmets. My argument was that they could refuse to allow children to bring their bikes/scooters unless they were wearing a helmet.

Genuinely I couldn’t give a toss what anyone thought; my children have always always worn helmets both with bikes and scooters.
No helmet = No bike/ Scooter
My two are 7 and 4.

If anything, I find it incredibly ignorant and stupid of the parents when I see children without helmets. I cannot understand why anyone wouldn’t protect their child by not insisting their child wears one .

YANBU and don’t give a rats arse what other people think. So long as your child is safe that’s all you should be worrying about.

Mine are 9 & 7 and wear helmets on their scooters but it’s normal around here. The rare few that don’t wear helmets stick out like a sore thumb.

Having seen the speed and angle that my three year old can corner on his scooter. Yes.

Coming off a scooter usually happens face/head first, insist on the helmet!
