To think you can die from period pains

Posting for traffic as I'm in the midst of my agonising period.

SAw the dr this month about them as they have become so excruciating I often feel like I need to phone an ambulance the pain is so bad.

She prescribed me naproxen and is organising an internal scan for me. But here I am on my period again. I've taken the naproxen, paracetamol and codeine, got a hot water bottle on my abdomen but nothing is helping and I want to cry, be sick, pass out it is so bloody painful. What the fuck can I do??

I had this for three years when I came off the pill TTC. I am due my baby any day now and dreading the return of periods more than labour. Mine is also linked to bowel pain and if I manage to go to the toilet (in excruciating pain) it helps to ease the period pain. I think I have endo from what I have read.

Have you had children OP?

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 04/08/2018 15:35

Sorry just seen you have Blush
No advice sorry, mine were like that before DC but much less painful now.

Although they can’t be cured there are treatments and a chance that things could be improved a lot for you, be it something like surgery or the minera coil could improve things for you. Please keep pushing for a referral and don’t give up. I don’t know why women are expected to put up with this or its classed as normal, some cramping is normal, to be in agonising pain and so unwell is not and it’s not acceptable until every treatment has been tried

I am now fixated on the naproxen making things worse. The pain hasn't subsided at all and if anything it's worse. I'm exhausted. To be in constant pain like this.

Husband has just gone for a run so I have my 2 &5 year old to look after, justs trying to not let them see me cry.

I'm going to fuck the naproxen off and see if that helps at all but would be hard to tell as I usually have pain for the first 2 days anyway, and tomorrow will be day 3.

I don't know how long it will take for the scan referral to come through but I will ask for referral to a gyno if it doesn't show anything.

I have bad reactions to the mini pill and menafemic (sp?) acid so they aren't options.

Make sure you do get a referral to gynae, endometriosis doesn't show on scans for the majority of people. The only way it can be ruled out for is by a laparoscopy by a surgeon trained specifically in endometriosis

*for sure

Flowers OP! I sympathise sincerely with your pain - a day or two a month I vomit from the pain of my periods.

I don’t find that naproxen makes any difference either way, and am fairly sure that it didn’t make things worse. You might just be having an extra shit month (though I realise that’s not that much comfort).

Wine?

back to GP, ask for more investigations.
At the age of 39-40 I got increasingly severe period pains, to the point where at times I was vomiting and/or unable to move.

After a series of investigations I've been diagnosed with severe endometriosis, picked up on MRI scan due to endometriomas as well as bowel and vaginal lesions, and am awaiting review at the specialist end centre.

SilageMarner · 04/08/2018 16:28

It sounds exactly like my friend who has endo; it took her years to get a diagnosis, but I think doctors are a lot more aware of it now.

You could take a look at some endo websites - not saying you can diagnose it online and it may well not be endo at all - but you might find some useful questions to ask the doctor/coping strategies on there.

Please push for further investigation and don’t be fobbed off. Nobody should have to feel like that 12 times a year Flowers
