Out at a cafe this morning, Saturday morning, popular place so fairly crowded.

Table next to us has a Dad and two boys who were maybe 3 and 4. Dad little bit oblivious. Ordered fuck tonne of food scrambled eggs, fancy pancakes, French toast. Milkshakes for both kids. Didn’t seem to realise that kids would need help, so didn’t cut or sort out any food portions etc, until one kid had dropped knife about seven times. Waitress intervened and swapped milkshakes so they were in smaller take away containers with lids. Kids look miserable, dad mostly playing on phone.

This cafe is very good with kids. Staff very inflappable and friendly. Provide high chairs, colouring sheets, child friendly menu that isn’t shit etc.

After kids had finished eating, dad still on phone, and ordered another coffee. The older child has been whining that he wants to go home but dad is ignoring. Then child vomits all over table.

We step up and grab some napkins and wave to a waitress who comes over, asseses situation and gets two staff to come over with gloves, garbage bags, mops, cloths, spray etc.

Attempt to start clearing away table but dad wants to finish his coffee. Suggest Dad take kids into bathroom to get them sorted out (there is a parents room all of three feet away with changing table, spare chair, sink etc) but dad refuses and changes son on table whilst staff try to clean. Telling them that they’re in his way. He helpfully puts vomit covered clothes on bench seat instead of in garbage bags provided by waitress. We ask if he needs help, nope just wants to finish his coffee.... mentions that he had a tough night as kid had been vomiting, but he seemed better this morning.

Eventually he leaves. Staff immediately take table and chairs off the floor so they can be cleaned. Get out fresh mop bucket etc and apologise to us.

Dad can be heard arguing at register that he shouldn’t have to pay whole bill because he didn’t finish. Eventually he leaves.

We leave (and stafff move our table off the floor too so that area can have a buffer while more thorough cleaning takes place.)

We thank staff, tell manager how impressed we were and leave a tip for the people who handled the madness.

AIBU to think that if your kid has been vomiting all night then a big cafe breakfast is not a good idea and then if they do get sick in the cafe, you do want you can to get them cleaned up and out of the way as quickly as possible... for everyone’s sake. Little boy looked so miserable and busy cafe now two tables down.

I get that things might happen but I just feel like this bloke was the ultimate in fuckwit technology.

Sounds like a idiot with the way he acted towards the kids and vomiting. Not to mention an arrogant one for not keeping his son away from people and on the sofa. Poor little boy, no wonder he kept saying he wanted to go home.

It is a lot like a man i knows behaviour. His child is his accessory and when they had chicken pox he dragged them down the pub so he could watch football and when they had vomiting (including in the car on the way) he shoved them into school to be very poorly and embarrassed in.

Some people just have themselves as their focus, no. Self absorbed.

The sheer cheek of him OP!

He must really like their coffee! Grin

You should have said to him ‘I saw what happened yesterday, it was so nice of you to leave a tip. The staff deserve it’ Grin

HoppingPavlova
Your post is the most depressing post I’ve read this week. Attitudes like this are a real problem.

I wouldn’t want a surgeon who is truly incapable of understanding how to put a tshirt and pair of trousers on a child operating of me Confused
I’m fascinated to understand how he dresses himself each day... does his wife do it for him? or does he have a valet like Prince Charles? Hmm

Give me strength...
