Or is the contents of my DH's rucksack completely hilarious

My DH goes to work everyday with his work rucksack. I've never given it a second thought.

This evening, for some reason, I had to move it out of the way, and found that it weighs a ton. For the first time ever, I've asked him what is in it, and we've gone through it together.

It contains

Tissues, smints, kindle - all fine
Umbrella - unnecessary but I can see the virtue
Woolly hats - two of them! It is 30 degrees outside and has been for months! He says you never know when someone will want to borrow one...
A large set of Allen keys - he has a desk job in an office.
Paperwork. Plastic files of paperwork. Including, but not limited to:

  • instruction manual for dd's bike
  • a pdf doc I once forwarded to him on managing child behaviour. (Unread).
  • his pension details and p60
  • the pension details of a nanny whom we no longer employ
  • council tax bills. Thames water bills.
  • The finance agreement for the car...

... etc etc.

I think this is completely mad. He thinks it's completely reasonable as he 'always knows where everything is'. Every day! On the boiling hot tube! With, to all intents and purposes, a filing cabinet on his back!

Please tell me I'm not BU to insist he leaves it all in a safe place at home?! Or is this the norm? Can we check with other DHs?!

Unless he is a filing cabinet, thats a bit odd.

Aprilshowersinaugust · 03/08/2018 21:10

Sounds to me like one day he doesn't plan on coming home.....

cordiality · 03/08/2018 21:10

Should I LTB? Confused

Aprilshowersinaugust · 03/08/2018 21:11

Lose The Bag?!!

cordiality · 03/08/2018 21:11

Hmm april, you could be right. And he's planning on going somewhere really cold.

He says if that was the case, he'd have much better stuff in in... Hmm

The contents of the filing cabinet is U and a bit odd. The allen keys are perfectly normal for me

drspouse · 03/08/2018 21:12

And he's taking DD, her bike, and the nanny (but he's planning to bump off the nanny for her pension).

Umm, no joke, reading that list and looking in my own bag there's a strong chance he and I are twins separated at birth. I have similar Blush

swg1 · 03/08/2018 21:13

Point out to him that losing the pension details for the nanny might be a violation of GDPR. That's not his info, he should be more careful with it.

booksandcoffee · 03/08/2018 21:13

It saves him going to the gym. Grin

CheshireChat · 03/08/2018 21:14

My DP is the same- whyyyy?!!

And now he's complaining his bag is ripped and has previously tried to borrow my beloved converse backpack- ain't happening, matey!

RedSkyLastNight · 03/08/2018 21:15

Not much different to lots of women whose handbags contain everything bar the kitchen sink...

Helpmemyhairisterrible · 03/08/2018 21:15

I have one who gets apoplectic if you tidy up tons of papers and mostly empty envelopes because he claims that only if he can see it does he know where anything is. Condensing 15-odd scruffy box files into four concertina files almost resulted in a divorce when we put our tiny house on the market.

Oddly enough, he also has a work rucksack (desk job) where he houses his most prized items of tat for safekeeping.

You are not alone, OP!

MrSpock · 03/08/2018 21:15

My handbag is like this! Blush

cordiality · 03/08/2018 21:16

He's very interested in the GDPR issue with the nanny details, and has removed the offending paperwork!

Small victories.

This made me chuckle. I think you should treat him to a nice filing cabinet for home that he can stock to his hearts content.

Alternatively, suggest he takes a photo of every document so. Its always on him on his phone and he can leave the physical paper at home.

P.s. DHs bag not too bad but he's been known to carry random items around too.

CheshireChat · 03/08/2018 21:17

RedSkyLastNight But they're strange as well.

areyouactuallykidding · 03/08/2018 21:17

Sounds like an identity thief’s dream bag..

KeepServingTheDrinks · 03/08/2018 21:18

Mine's the same worse

I found a pair of child's swimming goggles in the the other week. DD is 16, and I didn't own that bag when they would have fitted her

cunningartificer · 03/08/2018 21:18

Reminds me of the Michael McIntyre ‘man drawer’ sketch. You never know when it’s going to be essential to survival.

cordiality · 03/08/2018 21:18

Hmm Kidding, perhaps HE is the identity thief and I don't know who he is at all?!

OP posts:
ChasedByBees · 03/08/2018 21:19

With all that personal data someone will have a field day if he loses the bag. Even has utility bills with your address, how handy for them!

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 03/08/2018 21:23

I have an overwhelming urge to rifle through dh's work bag now.

Although I know it would be mostly illicit fags and nicotine gum. Quit 10 years ago. Yeah right Grin

SillySallySingsSongs · 03/08/2018 21:28

Just read this to my DH and he has confessed he has a wooly hat and gloves in his so he knows where they are for winter. Hmm
