to ask if you put food that is usually refrigerated in a kid's lunchbox?

DS doesn't like sandwiches. He's at activity club quite a lot this summer so i need to prepare packed lunch. He likes cheese, salami amongst other things - he has a sort of coolbag lunch box, though not sure how cool things are kept. Do you worry about giving cheese/meat etc in lunchboxes?

Put an ice pack in. Or a frozen water bottle.. It will be fine.

I don’t put chicken in but I do put cheese and salami. Stick a water bottle in the freezer and pop that in. By the time they go for lunch it’s melted to drink and has kept it all cool.

Yep - used the frozen water bottle trick. Works really well. I put yoghurts and fromage frais in as well and never had a problem.

Depends on the time of year. I wouldn’t trust fresh chicken or salmon in high summer but cheese, tinned tuna etc all fine on a cool bag with an ice pack.

Frozen water bottle is a good idea, thanks

I do cheese and meat yes.

Handy hint - freeze frubes and out them in his lunchbox! They will keep his lunch cool and probs defrosted by lunchtime.

owthathurts · 03/08/2018 20:49

My DD's also like the frozen frubes! By lunchtime they are just right to eat.

I have mini ice packs which do a great job. I got them from sistema but there are various ones available.

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/08/2018 20:53

Morrisons sell three packs of pure orange or apple for 40p. I freeze those, they keep everything cool and thaw by lunchtime.

Other tip is that if your children prefer squash free 3/4 of bottle of water frozen then in the morning add concentrate and top up with cold water. In this sort of weather I would happily freeze 2 bottles of water ( or include some p ure juice suggested above).
My boys always lost ice packs but the empty water bottles always came home!
