Locking up

LadyRussell · 02/08/2018 18:18

I went out earlier and left DS and his GF at home (she lives here they are 19/20).

I locked the back door thinking they probably won’t check it before they go out.

Get home and both the front door and (previously locked) back are unlocked and the house is empty.

Fucking furious it’s not bloody rocket science - is it!! Angry

I would be furious, too. At their age they should know better! Horribly irresponsible. You should give him hell.

Yanbu, I wouldn't be happy!!!!

At 19/20 that's ridiculous! Definitely bollock them Grin

Depends what sort of area you live in. We never lock the back door, and sometimes even forget to lock the gate. C'est la vie.

LadyRussell · 02/08/2018 18:53

We never leave our doors unlocked.

It’s not a “rough” area but it is near a very rich area so our area is thought to be quite high crime (it’s not) but there have been a spate of burglaries around here recently HmmAngry

Sell all her valuables and say somebody must have nicked them since they left all the doors unlocked.

I came home the other day and there was a massive brown patch on the beige carpet in the front room. I quizzed him “oh yes I spilt a cup of coffee” why have you not cleaned it up “because it’s the same colour as the carpet and it cleans itself anyway” Shock

Maybe they thought the back door was unlocked so they turned the key thinking they were locking it?

BackforGood · 02/08/2018 19:21

I think it's time to have an adult chat. If they are adult enough to be living together, then they are adult enough to be able to take responsibility for locking doors and cleaning up accidents. Set some ground rules, or give notice.

LadyRussell · 02/08/2018 19:22

We take the keys out when we lock the door you can’t think you have locked it when you haven’t.

It's high time to lay down the law with your son. If he's going to live in your home, he needs to live to your standards. No excuses.
