Just wondering whether anyone had been to the exhibition above at all? I was planning to go down this weekend after finally nabbing a day to myself but just went onto the site and it is almost £20 a ticket - never been to the Tate so I don't know if that's a normal rate for there (?) I've never had to pay for an exhibition before in or out of the City.
I'm a huge fan of Freud/Bacon and have been trying to get a free day to go visit since it was announced, it finishes this month. I'd usually suck it up but August is already a tight month for me and £20 seems extravagant to go look at some pictures - as much as I would love to go, is it worth paying for?

It's a brilliant exhibition, I'd definitely recommend it, it also has some stunning work by William Coldstream, Euan Uglow and Jenny Saville. This has been my favourite art show this year. Unfortunately £20 is now the going rate for Tate exhibitions.

Haven't been to this particular exhibit but I've been to a number of special exhibitions all around the uk and though £20 is on the higher end of what I've paid - it is normal.

eightfacesofthemoon · 02/08/2018 16:06

guess it's the going rate.
do you know anyone with a membership card?
or if you go a lot it's worth buying one. national art pass gets you 10 or 20% off i think.

I went with my husband when it first opened and we both thought it was terrific. I'm not a particular fan of Bacon but I loved the Freud and Auerbach, also Bomberg. I'm a member so didn't have to pay (apart from the membership obviously, but we do go to quite a lot of the exhibitions at Tate), but I think it was worth the entry fee. I've just checked my programme of events and it says that it costs £16 for advance booking - is that possible for you?

If not, and you still fancy Tate Britain, I would thoroughly recommend the Walk Through British Art (which "presents the story of British art from 500 years ago to the 20th century"), which is free.

ps I went to the Picasso exhibition at Tate Modern today which is interesting but in my opinion not worth the entry fee.

Sorry, typo, it's £17 advance booking.

If you are a fan of exhibit, and within reach of the big London venues then an Art Fund card is good value.
You get a good discount on entrance charges for ticketed shoes, for venues that charge and also lots of regional galleries and museums, including some NT sites 😊

Thanks all! I'm northern so no point in buying memberships, I visit London every few months but have never had to pay entry to anything before. I have already booked my train down for day and made dinner plans so it wouldn't be a wasted journey if I didn't go - but from your recommendations I think I'll dip into my holiday fund for it.

@Boiledeggandtoast - yep, £17 for 24hrs advanced, hence why I needed answers now Smile
