To ask your thoughts on mole/liver spot

I'm at an age where I'm getting "liver spots" or moles on my back.

Anyhow last night I was itching and scratched the top of my back/shoulder and one large spot had suddenly developed a sort of scab on it. I'd scratched it off without realising. It bled in as much as the area that was exposed was bloody but it wasn't pouring with blood or anything!

I'm a bit worried that it's suddenly developed that "scab" it was previously just slighted raised and brown in colour.

Trip to the pharmacist or the doctor or am I making a fuss about nothing?

No harm in getting it checked - skin is never worth messing about with. It isn't ticking the 'scary' mole boxes so I wouldn't worry if I were you, but I would get it looked at for absolute certainty.

Couple of very poor photos!

A top skin cancer guy told me that the only real way to tell if something is worrying is if it is changing, not what it looks like at a point in time. So on that basis he would say take a photo on your phone now. Leave well alone. Take another in 4 weeks. Compare and take both photos to the GP if any concerns. Hope all ok.

I can't see your pics.

@MrsEricBana I suppose it has changed as I'm it developed a scab?

I would go and get it checked- if you're like me you will only worry about it otherwise.
I'm sure your doctor would be fine with you doing that- they will have a much better idea whether to wait and watch or refer you- or could just put your mind at rest (hopefully).
If it did turn out to be anything nasty, I'm pretty sure it's quite easy to treat as long as it's caught early in any case.

MrsEricBana · 02/08/2018 14:25

Ok, I was going to say maybe you just scratched it off (which may well be the case) but I'd take photo and get GP to look at that yes as bled, irreg, you are fair. Don't worry but do get a check. Hope all ok.

Thanks all just called the surgery I said I was happy to see nurse or whoever, they were lovely and said best you see the doctor.

I'm sure it's nothing, but I need my mind put at rest!

Perfect! Let us know how you get on. Well done.

Flightbite · 02/08/2018 14:33

Will do :-)

I'm sure I'm making a fuss, but don't often see the doctor so hopefully he'll understand!

Please don't ever think you are making a fuss op!

I had a mole appear after I had my ds 5 years ago did exactly as some have suggested here took a photo and left for a while until I noticed it had got bigger. I'd already flagged with gp as well who said to keep an eye on it. I kept knocking it as it was on my left forearm and handling a baby etc it kept getting caught and bleeding. Went back to have it removed as it was a nuisance and go agreed it had got bigger.

They send all moles to be tested and when I had my follow up it turned out to be a benign tumour and I ended up having a further two surgeries to remove cells surrounding the area. All sorted now though.

Flightbite · 02/08/2018 14:41

@OrgyOfBarminess ouch! Thank goodness it's sorted now!!
