to be in tears over a bloody ASOS order?

Bought a beautiful dress from ASOS, but when it arrived it didn't fit. It's a maternity dress and the only one I have spent a decent amount of money on (£55). Everything else is cheap sale stuff. I sent it back, but went to my local post office which is a depo. They don't do tracked delivery and told me this but I chose to send it anyway as I have never had a problem with anything getting to ASOS (yes I know, stupid me). Turns out this one time it actually hasn't turned up at ASOS, but because the delivery wasn't tracked, I was given no receipt, nothing by the post office, so I can't give ASOS proof of me sending it.

I know this is my own stupid fault. Can anyone think of anything I can do to solve this? Or am I doomed to lose my £55 forever? It seems like a lot of money with a baby on the way... ugh, how stupid of me!

Give it a month - get in touch with their customer services in the meantime.

spanishwife · 02/08/2018 09:23

PS at uni me and my flatmates would literally just shove the bags into the letterboxes and we always magically got our returns haha - really wouldn't stress just yet.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 02/08/2018 09:26

In 13 weeks you will have a beautiful baby and will not need that dress again because even if you have another baby they will inevitably be at a different time of the year and your maternity wear will be the wrong season.

gower4 · 02/08/2018 09:27

They have a notice on their website saying returns are delayed. I'm also waiting for two.

GenericHamster · 02/08/2018 09:28

There's a good chance you'll be fine, it might just be taking a while to get processed. I did the same with an expensive great plains order once and it took about four weeks.

Tbf I still haven't learned as when amazon/asos/whoever do free returns I nearly always just bung it in the postbox and hope for the best.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 02/08/2018 09:29

Sorry posted too soon, not meant in a patronising way, just in a 'well it was never going to be a family heirloom type dress. Sounds as if it might just be their slow processing anyway.

MurielsBottom · 02/08/2018 09:29

When I returned something to ASOS it took around four weeks to get my refund so don't give up yet!

I would mentally consign it a done deal whatever way it goes now.

notthisagain83 · 02/08/2018 09:37

Honestly two weeks is not that long so i wouldn't let yourself get too stressed just yet. Give it another week or two. It will end up there eventually im sure of it.

GeezAJammyPeece · 02/08/2018 09:38

Re: your missing ASOS item, I second what pps have said - sometimes they can take a few weeks to confirm receipt and refund. I think the longest we've ever waited was about 3 1/2 weeks. So don't give up hope just yet!

Crying over the potential loss of £55 is completely understandable, with or without the pregnancy hormones!!!
I remember OH driving to the next town to get me chips & curry sauce as it was the only thing I thought I could stomach while going through a horrendous bout of morning/noon/night sickness and being inconsolable because the local Chinese Takeaway was shut that night Blush

And, for future reference....
You can ask for proof of postage for anything you mail over the counter. It's completely free of charge, and is simply a receipt with the delivery address and date/time/place of posting.
It doesn't offer tracking/signed for/ increased insurance but is enough to confirm you did send it.

You can request it when you hand the item over; and it doesn't matter whether you are buying postage for the item there and then, sending using prepaid return posting/freepost, or you have already applied postage stamps or the printed online postage.

NataliaOsipova · 02/08/2018 09:39

If it's a sale period, sometimes returns take longer than you expect. I wouldn't give up hope yet....

CocoaGin70 · 02/08/2018 09:43

Look on Ebay for maternity clothes, my DD got loads of hers that way.

And ASOS can be very slow at processing returns.

peachypetite · 02/08/2018 09:50

To be honest it's bad form they didn't give you one automatically.

LagunaBubbles · 02/08/2018 09:57

Why should you need proof? You’ve paid postage. Should be enough proof

Well its obvious - in case something gets lost in the post! Proof of postage is free, its just a handwritten receipt. How exactly is paying to post something proof you have posted it? Confused

RowenaDedalus · 02/08/2018 10:00

I recently waited 3.5 weeks for a return to go through. I think they’re delayed at the moment so I wouldn’t worry just yet.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/08/2018 10:02

I've never ordered from ASOS but I know Wallis are very, very slow at processing returns. I queried one once with them and was told I had to wait the full 28 days from when they receive it and then they have another 28 days to process the refund! They won't investigate anything until the first 28 days is up either.

LookAtIt · 02/08/2018 10:09

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

lavenderlove · 02/08/2018 10:11

I'm a frequent ASOS user and they take so bloody long sometimes!! Don't get too upset about it yet, give them another week or so

Tightsonatrain · 02/08/2018 10:14

Asos gave me a refund for something I had posted and lost the receipt for (which they said they never received back).

I imagine it’s done on a case by case basis but I think they’re pretty reasonable and want to keep regular customers happy

Nothing to lose by messaging? They’re v responsive on Facebook messenger

pinkstar01 · 02/08/2018 10:17

If you returned it using the Asos Royal Mail paid postage, they should have gotten a notification that it has been posted out and is on its way.

I remember once I called them about an order and the person told me that they could see the order had been posted back, maybe try calling and asking?

Raisinbrain · 02/08/2018 10:19

ASOS have amazing customer service in my extensive experience Grin
Get in touch with them and see what they say.

Nothisispatrick · 02/08/2018 10:19

The postage is free anyway, there is a returns label inside the packaging that you stick on the post office just scan it.

Skyejuly · 02/08/2018 10:20

This happened with me with Hm. My asos ones took about a week.

SurlyValentine · 02/08/2018 10:42

I'd speak to Asos customer services, who have always been really helpful whenever I've had to contact them.

If that got me nowhere, I'd mentally write it off, resolve to never return anything again without getting proof of postage, then forget about it. Yes, it's annoying and frustrating but there is precisely fuck all you can do about it if customer services can't help you.

pigeondujour · 02/08/2018 10:57

Whenever I've emailed them about a return/exchange/refund they always seem to be able to tell that I've sent it and the time/date because the label has been scanned - I use collect+ for my returns. Did you use the Royal Mail label? Definitely worth getting in touch with them either way. Their customer service is usually great.

sunglasses123 · 02/08/2018 11:52

I agree with the PP who says its a maternity dress and this time next year you will have no use for it. Write it off but others are right. Retailers are taking ages to process returns.

I would also write a really nice email to ASOS saying what you have said here and you were daft not to request a receipt. I brought a expensive eye shadow set on the plane and the lid was broken in that you could open it with force but didn't dare shut it in case when you tried to open it again you broke the lid. I called Estee Lauder and they were lovely. Refunded the cost because they didn't have a replacement and didn't want it back. They didn't ask for a receipt and I didn't have one as realistically you don't expect to keep a receipt for something like that (or maybe some do!)

I was fully expecting to be asked to pop it in an envelope and post back but they seemed to trust me. Sometimes its just how you ask..

New baby is much more exciting!
