To be nervous about staying in a 'proper' hotel?

I'm booked into a holiday Inn in a few weeks and I'm feeling a bit nervous about it. I've only ever stayed in Travelodges or caravans. I know I'm being stupid but I can't help it. Any tips? (I have anxiety and it kicks off at the weirdest things.)

@QuestionableMouse I am sure you will be fine and have a great time.

Enjoy.

Take all the things you need, I usually take lots of creams and lotions and potions and foot file and use it as a time to pamper myself.

I also take a TV guide so I can watch TV, and some nice drinks.

Remember staff are there to help you and you are someone they want to look after so don't feel embarrassed to ask for help or get extra tea bags, milk etc. I got a massive armful of mini milk portions last time and then fell asleep before I could drink my usual gallon of tea!

I always take books and end up watching TV! But I like to think I am high brow for taking the books!

Have a great time.

I've stayed in a few Holiday Inns. The ones I've stayed in have had a bar, swimming pool, pleasant rooms, breakfast included. All ok, no problems. Enjoy your stay.

Holiday inn isn’t a posh or upmarket hotel, it’s similar to a Travelodge (but with slightly nicer rooms an occasionally a pool). Just treat it the same as if you were going to a Travelodge

Holiday Inns are very different to Holiday Inn Express.
HIE are like Premier Inns- basic functional clean.
HI are higher range and have a lot more common facilities like a bar, restuarant, pool, gym etc.

Holiday inns aren't much different from a travelodge, just a few more facilities such as a pool and the rooms may look nicer. A lot of hotels at the cheaper end now have bars and restaurants.

Just go on trip advisor to see the hotel and google maps if you want to see the layout of parking etc.

I think it is hard to beat a premier Inn myself. I think they have the best beds and customer service but I can see the advantages of a holiday Inn if you are are having a longer stay and want facilities on site.

Something which I'm not sure PP have mentioned is the in-room phone. You can use it to call reception but for any external calls you will be charged an arm & a leg so just use your mobile.
If there is a minibar, unless there is a sign saying it is free, it will also cost an arm & a leg so don't use it unless your company has a very generous expenses policy. There may be a bottle of water left on the side. If so, that is usually free.
They will probably ask if you want a paper. That is usually just charged at cost price. If you do get a paper, ask what time it will be left.

If it makes you feel any better, I once arrived at what turned out to be a very posh "boutique" hotel covered in mud from my day trip en route. That was somewhat embarrassing. I'm sure you'll be fine!

We have done that in the western highlands the last two years after hiking in Skye and we were treated like royalty. We checked in wearing our hiking socks after leaving our boots in the front vestibule where they had a heap of wellies for guest use. They don't care as long as you pay. We even got a welcome back gift this year.

You'll be fine OP, it's just like Premier Inn with a bigger foyer (generally).

We've stayed in a lot of 'posh' hotels over the years and I agree with you. Love the beds and the staff have always been fantastic in any we have stayed in. We love the PI at Gatwick, we always choose to stay there when flying out.

QuestionableMouse · 02/08/2018 21:57

I think that room looks quite nice. I've been promised a bath though... Really hope I get one.

I do love very a Travelodge. Some have been great and some utterly crap but they have good memories in the main.

Thank you for the help. It's very much appreciated!
