to push for a MLU?

I had some real issues at the 20 week scan. There was an echogenic bowel (soft marker) on the scan. We went through the whole rigmarole of testing, stress, anxiety, tears etc. Yep echogenic bowel is now gone, they are no longer worried, baby is measuring fine, they state no real concerns but are doing extra scans just in case, but are telling me I can't give birth in a MLU. If there is genuine reason for this, then fine, absolutely I will give birth wherever I need to, but I'm getting mixed signals. If the extra scans show that in fact everything is fine and baby is growing okay, then what reason is there for me not to give birth in a MLU?

I'm not a midwife so I have no idea, however I would really like a water birth, and the hospital I am going to is a large unit with only one pool. This may sound trivial to some but I would at least like the option to try.

Opinions? AIBU to push for the MLU?

Is there an MLU within the hospital you're due to give birth in or is it a stand-alone unit? I was also desperate for an MLU water birth with my first. We had issues through pregnancy that then resolved so I darted between consultant and midwife care only to be told at the very end that as I'd gone 2 weeks overdue I could no longer give birth on the MLU (which was in the same hospital as the cons unit). The cons unit had one pool but the room was in use (not the pool though!) when it was my turn so I had no choice but to not have it, which was really rough for me. I've already met with the MLU about what would happen if I go overdue next time and as it's in the same hospital they've agreed to support me to stay with them even if I go overdue. Hope that helps?

In our local hospital the CLU is exactly the same as the MLU, a few water birthing pools and all, the only difference is that there are always consultants on hand in case any issues arise. Otherwise, the rooms are the same and you’re mostly left with the midwife unless something happens.

Quite a lot of people want a water birth but most hospitals have limited facilities for them. Unless you hire a pool and have a home birth, it’s sadly pot luck whether you’ll get one.
