Does this sound expensive for a one-off deep clean of our new house?

We're moving house soon, into a 1800 sq ft semi with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. I'm getting quotes for a one-off thorough clean when we move in, including cleaning out the oven and other appliances. The quotes are coming in at around £360 which seems expensive to me.

I think that’s v high. How many hours are they proposing?

user1471456408 · 31/07/2018 18:18

I’m paying £260 for an end of tenancy deep clean, including carpet clean and oven clean for a 2 bedroom flat. Does it include carpets and windows? If not it seems quite high, although it could be due to the area you are in.

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 31/07/2018 18:18

How many hours and people? A one off oven clean can be £40-£50 too so if there are some specific cleaning tasks like that included, I can see how it would mount up.
As a general guide (in my area) I'd expect to pay between £12-£15 per hour, per person.

OrgyOfBarminess · 31/07/2018 18:19

Hmm oven cleaning is at least £50-100, average cleaning for one cleaner is £10+ an hour unless it's a company therefore it'll b more so they take a cut. They must be sending more than one person I'm assuming.

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 31/07/2018 18:21

Ask for the quotes to be itemised though, if they've not done so. Maybe you could trim off some jobs and do them yourself to save some cash.

OrgyOfBarminess · 31/07/2018 18:21

Some knobhead at the estate agents wanted us to pay for a carpet and upholstery clean (Roman blinds) for two dogs that cost us at least £150. Is it something specialised like that perhaps?

itsbetterwithoutyou · 31/07/2018 18:23

Sounds fine to me, remember its a one off deep clean!

mindutopia · 31/07/2018 18:26

When we had ours done (3br detached house), it was I think about £250-295 including oven. We’re in the rural SW. In London or other places, I can see that being possible.

MuggledOff · 31/07/2018 18:28

We paid £375 for 5 bed 5 bath approx 3000sq ft. We were quoted £1200 by a different company though Hmm

clamberingwildly · 31/07/2018 18:33

They said 3-4 people for "as long as it takes". Area is SW London.

We were quoted £300 for a 3 bed terrace so that sounds right to me.

81Byerley · 31/07/2018 18:52

Sounds about right to me...it's a lot of work.

BoneyBackJefferson · 31/07/2018 18:53

£360 is what I got quoted for a "professional" company to come in and do a one off end of tenancy clean. thats on a one bed flat

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/07/2018 18:54

I was around that 16 years ago for same size house (empty) in a not expensive area. It seems fair enough to me.

AJPTaylor · 31/07/2018 19:01

Seems v reasonable to me!

AnnieAnoniMoose · 31/07/2018 19:04

How long is a bit of string?

You need an itemised list of exactly what they are going to do for the money before you know whether it’s good value or not. One persons ‘deep clean’ is another person’s ‘quick once over’ and without an itemised list, you’ll have no come back if they do a crap job.

Quartz2208 · 31/07/2018 19:06

SW London deep clean of a 4 bed house unfortuntately sounds about right

MyBloodyMaltesersAreMelting · 31/07/2018 19:15

Agree with Annie

SoyDora · 31/07/2018 19:16

Sounds about right to me.

Budgiegirlbob · 31/07/2018 19:24

Sounds about right, assuming they’re cleaning the carpets and oven. But I would ask for an itemised quote to make sure it’s a proper deep clean

Tomatoesrock · 31/07/2018 19:34

It sounds slightly expensive, though there is lots of work in a deep clean, especially if it is the end of a tenancy. The oven and washing machine alone takes time, then it is floor to ceiling cleaning.

hendricksy · 31/07/2018 19:44

I presume they and cleaning the carpets and sanitising everything . Cleaning takes a long time and most get paid £10-12 an hour so the company will charge you £20/25 an hour . I suggest you find a cleaner who will just get paid herself and not via a company to keep the costs down . Also get quotes to do the carpets separately .. I would imagine £35o ish is about right .

SignOnTheWindow · 31/07/2018 22:56

Deep cleans take a long time and are a lot of hard work. Grease and dust build up on tops and backs of cupboards can often need scraping off before you even start to scrub. You'd be surprised how much dirt accumulates around light switches, skirting boards, stair rails. Then there's all the limescale build up if you're in a hard water area - crust round taps, on shower screens, in the toilet. I think £360 for a proper clean is definitely reasonable! Make sure your definition of what's clean is the same as the cleaning firm's, though.
