To think this will end up as a dumping ground?

Apologies - v v 1st world problems.
Have eventually found affordable house to buy in nice area (not been decorated in 40 years but hey ho).
What's putting me off is theres a living room, then a dining room which you need to walk thru to get to the kitchen. I just can't see how this room wont become a dumping ground for all the crap of the day. Dp seems to think we could fit a table, a sofa AND a tv in here, Doc's want it to be a pkay room, and I would like a nice tranquil dining room we could sit at every day and have civilised meals.
If you have a room that essentially has to double up as a corridor to your kitchen, has it just become A dumping ground???! Or am I just panicking?

We’ve got a similar layout, and I’ve had to be militant about no dumping on the table, it’s a bugbear of mine. But DP and DCs are messy/untidy by nature and I’m the polar opposite, but we get there.

I’ve got two big plastic boxes in their playroom for school bags and shoes which helps.

We have to walk through our dining room to get to the kitchen and it's never a mess. I hadn't ever really thought about it as a problem tbh and it never has been. It's a lovely space, and great to be able to have guests in there while you're cooking etc.

My dining room is next to the kitchen, has a big dining table, a large bookcase, a cupboard and a couple of non dining chairs. I curl up in there and sew and listen to the radio, or read the paper with a coffee. Yes, it gets papers dumped in there, but then they get sorted and put away. It's a quiet room, and I really enjoy using it.

My old house was like this-we used it as a dining room. It was never a dumping ground, but I am quite tidy!

The kitchen's to small to eat in, so you will be using it a lot. A friend has this layout, and it is basically an extension of the kitchen, with a table and chairs, Ikea Kallax shelves and a couple of comfy chairs. It's a nice place to sit when she is in the kitchen, as we can still chat as she cooks.

Don't worry about it - you will just have to keep on top of clutter! Remember, if this house had a larger kitchen and two separate receptions it would cost a lot more.
