When I lived abroad we saw a man raping a dog, he had tied its front and back paws together. Fucking disgusting scum. It was explained as "these men have to wait until marriage in a religious country and some never have the chance to marry". The police thankfully and surprisingly took it seriously and we got her rehomed.

The title gave no indication that it was about animal abuse.

It is indeed horrendous, but no more so than the sexual violence against women that is a regular occurrence in India (and beyond).

Someone commented that they must have been on drugs. That may well be the case. Drug use is a growing problem in rural Haryana.

I made the comment about drugs. I can't get my head round it otherwise - but suppose if they were in a false reality maybe they thought the poor animal was a woman, or maybe they thought they were all goats?

Otherwise, why? How could they even get aroused by a goat? All of them? Surely bestiality is a very rare flaw in most people? I know it does happen - but EIGHT men all thought this was something reasonable to do?

I never trust these scandalous or salacious stories that come out of obscure parts of faraway countries. They aren't important enough for news outlets to independently verify and I'm sure many are either completely fake, have had details changed to make them more dramatic, or have suffered a bad case of Chinese whispers. It's certainly great click bait.

I'm sure there are many things in India that need scrutiny and change. I hate the dowry system, for one, but I don't get my education about India from salacious stories in the gutter press.

@AbsentmindedWoman It proves the point though that rape is about control and not about sex. It's the dominating an innocent that's arousing, not the person/animal itself.

I don't think it's fair to pile on @Fuckingnamechanging - we can't help what we are sensitive to. But like the op said unfortunately in life we can't get trigger warnings. I've came across a few videos that autoplayed on Facebook and I felt violated (only saw about 5 seconds, but that sure can be enough).

I think if we can be respectful of others sensitivities and not put them in a position where they don't know what they are reading on Mumsnet would be a good idea though, as Mumsnet can be a safe space for women that have gone through traumas.
