What to do about neighbours knocking shop?!

Okay so it's more of a WWYD than an AIBU. And I have namechanged as potentially outing, but regular MN user.
Neighbours have rented out their house for a year whilst they try out a new job overseas. They have been gone for about 2 months. They have rented out their house to a romanian couple, plus two other ladies who live there. There are a LOT of gentlemen visitors. Who generally stay for an hour, then leave....some as early as 7am. A little detective work confirms that it is indeed a massage parlour. Would you report it? Who to? The letting agent? I'm not convinced they'd care as long as they're getting the rent. I could let the owners know, but I don't want to stress them out.

Many rental contracts have an "anti social behaviour clause" that says any such behaviour is a breach of contract and they can be kicked out for that.

gindrinkingmarypoppins · 30/07/2018 22:30

Thanks all. I will be reporting to the police tomorrow, will let you know what they say!

If they're romanian theres about an 85% chance they've been trafficked and are working under a pimp. I'd definitely seek help for them in this case.

If it was two women working together discreetly for safety I'd feel differently I think.

Newerversion · 31/07/2018 13:35

I hope the police take it seriously.

HolidayHelpPlease · 31/07/2018 20:09

Did you speak to the police OP?

OftenHangry · 31/07/2018 20:15

I personally would be concerned since they are from Easter Europe and there is a big problem with trafficking.

LookAtIt · 31/07/2018 20:24

Have you any way to contact the owners?

If two of the woman are sex workers then it’s a brothel and owning or running a brothel is illegal.

It might also be a planning issue.

Zadig · 31/07/2018 20:39

Why is there one of these threads every week?

This week’s variation is... they’re Romanian.

Yes OP you do inform the police. Obviously. Why would you need MN to explain why?

middleagedalready · 31/07/2018 20:45

I would report to police and to neighbours if you have contact details for them, it would be in breach of my tenant's contract and I would put them on notice if this came up with our house.

Racecardriver · 31/07/2018 20:48

I would assume that it was a brothel and call 101

Rebecca36 · 31/07/2018 20:48

As it is only for a year I'd leave them to it. Unless they are causing a noise nuisance they're not doing you any harm.

gindrinkingmarypoppins · 31/07/2018 20:50

I have online reported it, my DH wanted me to remain anonymous.

I have found the owners number, I will have to let them know won't I? Confused

OP posts:
YeTalkShiteHen · 31/07/2018 20:51

I’d contact the police but make clear that your concerns are human trafficking for sex, that way hopefully if the women/girls in the house have been trafficked they will be helped.

gindrinkingmarypoppins · 31/07/2018 20:52

No Rebecca36 they're not doing me any harm, but that's not the point is it? The point is there could be several trafficked vulnerable women being exploited in there.

OP posts:
Newerversion · 31/07/2018 21:01

Rebecca36- are you for real? So you would let it carry on rather than at least ensuring those women are safe and not trafficked?

middleagedalready · 31/07/2018 21:10

I would be very grateful if you told me OP, it is still the owners house and I can't imagine they would want this to be happening in it. If they return to live in the house they are going to get all sorts of visitors turning up and if they try and sell it all sorts of things might show up on Internet searches.

Oldaintallthat · 31/07/2018 21:18

Good that you reported it, I'd also follow it up with a call the local beat bobby if you can.
If it was my house, I would want to know too.

LookAtIt · 31/07/2018 21:18

Wow, even if I knew for certain that the women weren't trafficked and that the mo St wasn't being used for crime etc I still wouldn't want to live next door to a brothel.

Im surprised so many posters are fine with it. I'd hate having the creepy men being around and I'd worry about the possibility of violence, drunkenness, crime or noise (etc, etc). I know those things might not happen but I'd not want to take the chance.

Other things that would worry me would be the effect on house prices. Maybe that's a misplaced worry as so many of you seem unconcerned about living next to a brothel but I know I wouldn't buy a house next to one.

LookAtIt · 31/07/2018 21:21

Sorry for typos . I meant 'money wasn't being used for crime'
