To find my coworker's eating habits unbearable?

Quite possibly I am but it's driving me mad. She goes out to the supermarket during our lunch hour and brings back a whole rotisserie chicken which she leaves in the container and tears into with her hands. Fingers and hands all greasy and covered in chicken juice etc and this horrible squelchy tearing sound. What on earth? This is 2018 not 1300!

It's making me crazy. I'm going to have to leave the room.

Op, I feel your pain. I have a co-worker sitting directly opposite to me who literally has to be eating something all.the.time!!! Crisps, fruit, chocolate, chewing gum in between and all with mouth open... she had to have something in her mouth at all times of the day... it’s slowly driving me insane especially with the chewing gum as she plays with it between her teeth, smacking it with her tongue etc Hmm . And when I say all the time I’m not joking, she’ll do this thing of tearing a packet of crisps fully open and pop one in her mouth every so often so a bag lasts half an half hour so she’s chewing every one thoroughly and loudly ... she’s even joked that she eats so much because she’s bored to our team leader so he’ll give her more work but whilst working she’ll just eat more!!! I feel angry just thinking about it!!

If I could get up and leave I would but that would mean I’m not at my desk at all during the day as it’s constant,...

The only respite I get is when she a) goes to the vending machine and b) much when she goes out to the supermarket, she uses the whole lunch real to go food shopping every day (which you’d think I’d get a break but that’s when everyone else is eating/slurping/crunching) but then comes back and sits there for the next half hour eating her smelly greasy lunch when we are all supposed to be back at work...

Can you tell it annoys me LOL Grin

Do what I do... I eat my lunch at 11.30 am. For 3 reasons:

  1. I cannot bear to hear/smell/see other people eat at work.
  2. The work kitchen is usually still clean by then.
  3. I avoid the inevitable criticism about my (very healthy) vegan diet, usually by someone stuffing their face with KFC.

Can’t you just stare at her in disgust and see what she says?

Eat like a frigging human :o

But if it is not at the desk (and we have nowhere else) I am not really seeing the problem. She is eating lunch, of her choosing, at lunch in the correct setting?

I have some proper howlers where I work (fish, out of date stuff, etc, including cauliflower in the microwave), but I think YBU a bit here OP.

Although I can see your point :)
