I've never really been to the north much and haven't lived there but the house prices!

Calm down people please. Play nice.

RobinEggs · 30/07/2018 20:00

I live in the south west and we have high unemployment, low wages, terrible transport links and the joy of South East house prices. If I didn’t have elderly parents to keep an eye on I'd move straight up north in a flash. If we sold our 2 bedroom terrace house we could buy a house with a wine cellar and 25 acres in dh’s hometown!

NewYearNewMe18 · 30/07/2018 20:01

You might not want to live in Peckham but you give your right arm for Kensington Grin

The UK has lots of lovely places to live, trouble is, not all them have transport links, or employment. And although its only about 700 miles from tip to tip, the temperature and weather vary wildly. I couldn't live anywhere with 3 foot of snow and being cut off.

Unihorn · 30/07/2018 20:02

That's bloody expensive to me. But I live in the Welsh valleys:

You're more than welcome here!

NewYearNewMe18 · 30/07/2018 20:12

There lots of nice little cottage type properties on the south coast, all under 200K, make lovely little retirement places. The reason they are cheap is simply not transport infrastructure

PositiveVibez · 30/07/2018 20:19

My DD has moved up north. Lovely fanily orientated people

We aren't a different species 😂

Seasawride · 30/07/2018 20:24

Ok Kensington you have me !Grin

Personally my fave place is Dorset Wink

Mousefunky · 30/07/2018 20:27

That house is expensive for the size of it and the area...

I live in Leeds, work here and think it’s great but am moving out of the city next month because DP and I couldn’t afford to buy a house the size we need in a decent area of Leeds. The reason it’s so expensive is because soooo many southerners have moved up here seeking cheaper house prices (rent or buying). I have been on a night out in Leeds before and barely heard a Northern accent. Plus the regeneration of the city centre means it’s ‘hip’ or whatever so students love it. Same shit as Hackney and other areas of London like it, it prices out the locals.

Many places up north are quite expensive. York, Harrogate and Ilkley as strong Yorkshire examples. Not as expensive as London of course but nowhere ever will be.

RobinEggs · 30/07/2018 20:28

newyear I can assure the town I love in on the south coast definitely does not have decent transport infrastructure! Still couldn’t get anything for near 200K.

Mousefunky · 30/07/2018 20:31

Huddersfield isn't very northern. wtf is it then? Grin

monkeysox · 30/07/2018 20:33

York, Durham, Newcastle, Northumberland

Fatbelliedgirl · 30/07/2018 20:37

I would love to move to the north. I especially love the Doncaster area and Derby, Sheffield etc. Friendly people, lovely scenery, good transport links etc.

itsbetterwithoutyou · 30/07/2018 20:42

Love how they have makeshift washing lines strung out on the street (checkout the street view).

Doubletrouble99 · 30/07/2018 20:49

I live in the Scottish Borders LakieLady but Roberton is a bit remote and Hawick is not my fav. town. We live nearer Edinburgh on the new Borders railway line, 40mins to the capital and a lovely climate as far as I'm concerned. You can get a lovely 4 bed detached in our village for under £400K.

MartyMcFly1984 · 30/07/2018 20:49

That's really not cheap for a 2 bed with a yard. You can buy a 2 bed starting at £35,000 around here.

FASH84 · 30/07/2018 20:50

@LakieLady that house is beautiful, you might've introduced me to a new hobby...

ILoveMyDressingGown · 30/07/2018 20:58

3 bed semi with large kitchen/diner, smaller living room, 2 double rooms and a single room, a fairly large back garden and a paved front garden that could be used for off-street parking for sale next door to me. £90K. West Yorkshire.

Atthebottomofthesea · 30/07/2018 20:58

You don't want to move up North, they're all 'orrible. They don't even have running toilets or proper roads, that is why housing is so cheap.

bullyingadvice2017 · 30/07/2018 21:01

Bring a bucket to get water from t'well up t'rd

MingeUterusMingeMingeYoni · 30/07/2018 21:06

That's not even a particularly good price for a house like that OP!

But you wouldn't BU to consider relocating to a cheaper area of the country with potentially much more to offer many people than the south east. You're about 10 miles from Leeds there, so close to a decent job market.

Willyoujustbequiet · 30/07/2018 21:22

I agree Huddersfield is not north lol

That's expensive for what it is.

hottotrotsky · 30/07/2018 21:37

croprotationinthe13thcentury was considerably more widespread... a quote from Rick in The Young Ones perhaps?

Has bugger all to do with thread but is one of those earworms I have of yore.

DesignStatement · 30/07/2018 21:40

Huddersfield is in the north of England ~ what else would you call it?
Lots of cheap properties round there, but also lots of snow in winter and too much rain.

x2boys · 30/07/2018 21:50

Huddersfield is the North its the North west of England its hardly the south is it?
