2 jobs, similar in nature

Job 1
New job offer
Full time over 5 days
Close to home (5 mins drive away)

Job 2
Existing job
Part time over 3 days
An hour on the train each way

Both jobs similarish in nature, exact same pay. So do you work full time for the same money that the pt one pays? Or does the train journeys outweigh only working 3 days per week???????????

I left a job which was a 35 - 40 minute drive away for a job which was a 3 minute drive away. I hate driving so it was a no brainer for me. I can understand your desire to work a lot nearer to home, OP.

Id get a dog and work nearer home ....to help with the inevitable empty nest syndromeGrin

Commuting 3 days a week will obviously be easier than 5, but the question really seems to be which job will fulfill you more - the full time one or the part time one plus leisure. Do you like your current job / workplace? If so, can you be confident that would also be the case with job 1?

thejeangenie36 · 30/07/2018 23:05

I should have added that I swapped a 1.5 hour commute for a 5 min commute, and my quality of life is much higher -both ft though so not same as your situation.

Smellylittleorange.... I've 2 dogs ... one is a new puppy Wink

Guys this was my day ..... train at 7.30, started work at 9. Finished work at 6 tonight, and got home in the house at 7.50, tired, starving and with a migraine.

If it was job 1, I would have left home at 850, started at 9. Finished at 6 & been home for five past 6.

I'm taking job 1.
I think Confused

Yeah you are already working 5 days just now so you really aren’t losing anything by going to another 5 day a week job so from where you are now you will feel like you’re gaining a lot. I’d do the same tbh. Like I said I don’t need two days at home now the dc are older I’d rather be out working and home evenings.

Racecardriver · 30/07/2018 23:33

You will be doe sing 6 hours on the train then. Will you end up getting home/leaving home at the same time? Do you have other commitments? How much do you enjoy the work?

FASH84 · 31/07/2018 07:57

How much does the train cost? As you're. Paying train fare the take-home pay isn't the same. Where I live it's a 50 minute train into central London, lots of people do it, but for three days a week a monthly or annual ticket would be expensive. Dailies would be £22 a day, so in your scenario I'd be around £280 a month worse off.

Job 1

You'll end up with more cash, saving from train fare.
If you can walk to work during this nice weather, you'll have done your daily exercise (save on gym membership too, if you have one).
Less dead time during the day, waiting on trains and travelling
