To think that a woman who still has pregnancy weight 8 weeks after having a baby is normal?

Just read an article from a magazine left on the train. It was about Mel B and it said that she had been to some event in Hollywood and still had not lost all the weight she had put on after having her baby.

She had a baby 8 weeks ago! I know that in La La Land most things are surreal but having a baby is as real as it gets and a woman's body will invariably gain weight. It takes 9 months to go on so why the modern unrealistic expection by meeja types for new mothers to look like they have never had a baby?

I wish more slebs who have babies would lose weight properly instead of indulging in unrealistic diets so that they can fit into tiny frocks agian.

Grrr!

my gp told me that I had a lifetime to lose weight but only one chance for DS to grow arms, legs and organs. which is a good way of thinking about it I think.

but rampant morning sickness keeps weight down a treat particularly if you have it for all bar 2 weeks and 6 weeks after birth I find!

scootermum · 31/05/2007 15:24

9 months on, 9 months off seems fair to me..dunno though coz I got pg ggain after 8 months...thats my excuse and Im sticking to it..suspect it will take me a little longer to lose the weight this time..if baby ever arrives, (7 days overdue)

I am pinning all my hopes on Charlotte Church..she seems the sort to sleb to keep it real!

smallone · 31/05/2007 15:29

I was the same weight after giving birth 4 months ago as pre pregnancy - but don't shoot me yet - I've put a stone on since!

funnypeculiar · 31/05/2007 15:29

My doctor gave me a lecture about loosing my pg weight at my 8 week/6 week/whatever it is checkup.

I should point out that whilst I was heavier than pre pg (never wighed more than 7 1/4 stone before I had kids, I still only weighed about 8 stone at that point. I went home feeling simultaneously furious and told off

seamonster · 31/05/2007 15:30

My dad came round two days after my 3rd and patted my belly saying I had a long way to go. And kept on making references.
What did you say Cappuccino, I'm expecting the same again in Sept.

Chelseamum · 31/05/2007 15:38

It has taken me 9 months to get back to my old jeans. One thing I noticed is that I ate a lot when I had my dd which mostly were cakes, sugary drinks etc...

In my case I indulged in all the stuff I did not touch during pregnancay and as a result I put a bit of weigth because of my eating!

I think that the secret is to be patient and eat a bit of everything withing reason, don't snack on fatty stuff and in 9 months we can all look how we did before having the kids!

amidaiwish · 31/05/2007 15:42

my GP warned me not to lose weight too fast when bf.
because apparently if you lose a lot of fat, it releases toxins that have been stored in the fat? is that true, or was he just worried that i had seemed to lose quite a bit quite fast?

Lovecat · 31/05/2007 16:04

amidawish, that is quite correct - although I'd be more worried about hormones than toxins, as they too are stored in fat - if you lose too much fat too quickly your skin and your periods go to hell and your emotions become somewhat.... turbulent!

!)

aargh the tiny one has found me! Will go before typing dinsintegrates urther....

Eleusis · 31/05/2007 16:04

Oh shut up. No one want to hear from women who lose their pregnancy weight too fast. Shouldn't you be at Amida?

Just kidding, of course

speedymama · 31/05/2007 16:24

I guess the other aspect of slebs that we mere mortals overlook is that they have an army of maternity nurses, nannies, cooks, butlers, gardeners etc to attend to all their needs whilst they can focus on the important things like, err, hmmm, errr, oh yeah

not eating

(therefore they can expend as little energy as possible)

Don#'t forget the dietician and the persona trainer(s).

speedymama · 31/05/2007 16:28

Oh yes and some also have nutritionists as well as dieticians!

And with the trendy big sunglasses look like insects.

speedymama · 31/05/2007 16:45

And lets not forget the oversized handbag to house the oversized sunglasses

i think it all down to genes - really you shouldnt put any extra weight on when pregnant, apart from boobs and obviously the expanding tummy.
my ds was ten pounds when he was born, and i could still fit in my size ten jeans 2-3 weeks later, but obviously not the next day!! Guess i was lucky as as all i get is a beachball tummy when pg, huge boobs and skinny legs/arms!
Surely if you dont eat like a pig when pg, you shouldnt put any weight on in the first place? (apart from saggy tummy after birth!)

speedymama · 31/05/2007 16:50

No FioFio, you are right. They need their oversized handbags for their little pooches because most of them seem incapable of walking

Well I did not eat like a pig and still managed to put on 4.5 stones . When I did eat a lot it was because my body demanded it and that was only for a few weeks.

allgonebellyup · 31/05/2007 16:54

Actually i did eat like a pig too, but i wouldnt have done if it meant i put any weight on!!

speedymama · 31/05/2007 16:55

I'm just waiting for some font of wisdom to tell us it was our fault for getting pregnant in the first place. What did we expect!

They have the dogs on hand ready to lick their mouths free of any calories left over from 'eating'. They probably don't have the strength to hold their baby for too long but can't carry it around in said large bags.
