Or would I be poisoning us?

I've just had to put some of those ridiculous "ready made" jacket potatoes in the oven on top of some frozen roasties. I couldn't be more of a mess if I tried. Its not even the right cooking times and the tin is too small. I think you are winning with your sprouty spuds OP, think yourself lucky!

flamingofridays · 29/07/2018 19:19

Fine as long as not squishy or green in my book.

NutElla5x · 29/07/2018 19:19

If I had binned every potato that I've eaten that started off looking like that I'd be a very skinny girl, but I didn't so I'm not Grin

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 29/07/2018 19:21

I just threw some potatoes away that were completely wrinkled, soft AND sprouting (haven’t been cooking in the heat) that’s how much they have to go before I bin spuds! These look fine, just chop off the bits and give them a rinse off.

SluttyButty · 29/07/2018 19:33

I use them like that but take a bigger margin around the sprouty bits. I just can't stand waste and after watching my mother bin potatoes that had the slightest hint of a sprouty bit her entire life, I refuse to pass that idea on to my children.

Happyhippy45 · 29/07/2018 19:38

I read somewhere it's all about how firm they are if they've sprouted.
If firm knock sprouts off. If soft chuck them out. I don't think eating a slightly soft potato will kill you though......

MereDintofPandiculation · 29/07/2018 19:58

You can sometimes resuscitate wrinkled by putting them in water. Works a treat with carrots too.

Tika77 · 29/07/2018 20:01

You must be joking... it’d be a bloody waste to chuck them, take off the sprouts and maybe cut around them.
I regularly get potatoes like this as one kg lasts us about a month. (I’m not a fan of potatoes.)

londonrach · 29/07/2018 20:02

Ive cut the bits off and cooked them and survived.

Agustarella · 29/07/2018 20:04

I would de-sprout them and eat them. Never had a problem yet.

GazeboLantern · 29/07/2018 22:44

I trimmed them, cut them into wedges, oiled and spiced them, and roasted them. Went down a treat.

The potatoes certainly had a bit of 'give' to them - not wrinkly, but not hard, either. A few bits were green when I cut them, so I binned those.

(What are the symptoms of potato glycoalkaloid poisoning?)
